Review: Super FUN, Easy workouts! LOVE them!! - I was somewhat apprehensive about starting this DVD "workout" series. (6 DVDs in this set) I'd worried that the dance moves would be too hard & would change too fast - but NOT AT ALL!! They're SUPER EASY, and really a LOT of FUN!! And folks, I'm 60!! I have no background in Dance, and yet the moves are absolutely NO BIG DEAL to learn & DO. I've only just started, so I've only done the first DVD, which I guess is Richard's original "Sweatin to the Oldies." It lasts about a half-hour - which is perfect! His Intro (talking) is QUICK, then it's on to ten dance numbers, and the band is GREAT!! (Actually SOUNDS like a lot more people than the # they've got on stage!) Richard doesn't take time to "instruct." There are no "Dance Lessons." But you know? That's OKAY! His moves are so simple that you just start copying them. (Obviously his 16 or so "dancers" are more experienced & already KNOW his moves & routines, but really, if you're in the privacy of your home doing this, then who cares?!) You just fake it til you make it! If you watch it to the very end, you'll see that at least 2/3rds of his Dance Company ("ordinary people") LOST A TON OF WEIGHT doing his programs! (Some over 150, even over 200 lbs!!) Frankly, I'm impressed that his simple moves not only get my heart rate up in a manner that I can sustain (@ 60!), but they also get the lymphatic system flowing (SUPER IMPORTANT!), should prevent shoulder & hip problems (if done frequently enough), and don't let you get bored. He uses repetition well - just enough to let you get in the groove, but then switches it up so to keep it challenging & interesting. He was one of a kind! A creative genius, really! This is going to be my new Go-To for this Winter, & whenever the weather is too unsavory to exercise outdoors. THANK YOU, Richard Simmons!! (God Bless his soul!!) These vids are a great GIFT to ordinary folks who just want to move & groove to GREAT MUSIC that moves us! I'm SO glad I took a chance on this set, & look forward to trying & using all 6 of them. Review: Great for everyone who is in average to below average shape! - I started doing this back in the 90's when I was in my 20's. I loved them then and now that I am 50, I still love them...especially Sweatin to the Oldies 1. If you are wanting something intense....then these really aren't for you. Who are they for? People who are in below average shape, out of shape or for people who exemplify the meaning of "couch potato"! It doesn't matter what age you are.... I am 50 but have my 16 year old son working out with me to these.... so any age can do them! f you are trying to decide if these are right for you.... how good of shape are you in? The workouts do get harder as you do part 2,3,4 and 5.... my suggestion is to start with #1 and see how difficult it is for you. If it's too easy, then try #2 and so on. These are also GREAT for stretching....Richard does and EXCELLENT job at the start of the workout getting you to stretch all the areas you are going to be using during the workout. You just don't jump into a workout full go....he eases you into it. Richard also takes time out in the workout to have you check your heart rate to make sure you are not over doing it. The BEST thing about the workout is it's FUN! You workout to GREAT oldies music and the moves are easy to learn! Richard is smiling and encouraging PLUS the people IN the workout videos are average to BIG size! You don't have to workout looking at some super buff person who is barely breaking a sweat while your DYING! I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THESE WORKOUTS! They may be 20 years old but they still are GREAT! UCANTRUSTME! I did NOT receive this item free for my review. I paid for it with my own money!

Excellent Product, Excellent Price
This series makes it fun to lose weight while exercising. When I was younger, before meeting my second wife, I used it to lose over 80 pounds and get back in shape while I was working. I'm a lot older now, retired, and out of shape. I used the series once with fantastic results. There is zero reason I can't use it again. It's fun exercise, especially if you like 1950s and early 1960s music with a good beat. Plus, the female dancers are pretty good looking. (Big Grin). Plus, the price is very good. And, make no mistake, the series starts out slow and moderately easy; but, as you progress in the series of 5 cds, you will get a real workout, especially if you add ankle and wrist weights on your own. And, the nice thing is that no real expensive equipment will be needed as you progress. This is an expanded version of what I used before. So, that is also a plus. My final opinion: Excellent product at an excellent price. Enough said.

Fun Workout
After reading many reviews here I decided to purchase Sweatin' to the Oldies complete set so thought I'd weigh in. Richard Simmons has always seemed very obnoxious to me and I must say that I got this DVR thinking (can't recall where I read this) that I could "turn off" his voice and still have the music and visual. Doesn't seem to be a way to do that. However, I'm not as bothered as I thought I'd be. Some people complained that it was hard to follow his moves. This is true so if it bothers you not to get it just right this is not for you. Truth is that what's important here is to keep moving and have fun, not to follow the moves exactly. This is good exercise for people who enjoy dancing, like the oldies and want to be able to work out at home. I should probably say that I'm 62 years old and have found it hard in recent years to stick with any exercise routine until someone recommended Leslie Sansone's "Walk Away the Pounds". After several months of doing that I wanted variety so got the Richard Simmons which is a bit more taxing (I sweat more and get my heart rate up higher). I got the full set, to keep it interesting for many months to come.

Pleasantly Surprised
First of all - I ordered this video set on Friday and receieved it Monday afternoon! It was shipped and delivered to me very quickly - that was great! I started the videos yesterday and I LOVE it. I am in pretty good shape and workout on a regular basis so I expected the videos to be too easy for me. I really broke a sweat! I adjusted the workouts alittle so that I would be working alittle harder - for example, when they were checking their pulse I ran in place. The workouts really flow by because of the great music and of course, Richard Simmons' mannerisms. What I liked most was the end, when everyone came out and said how much weight they lost. It was truly inspiring to see how much people lost by simply dancing and having fun. I am not one to enjoy working out, but I do it because I have to - but with these tapes I feel like I'm having fun and dancing to great music rather than regular workouts. I highly recommend this box set - it's a great price and you cannot go wrong. Despite what others have said, I found his moves pretty easy to follow and trust me, I am not that coordinated! Yes, he moves on quickly and does not always say what he's doing next, but he repeats those moves so you can catch up and learn them. It is a great, easy way to work out. Buy this, you will not be disappointed!

Sweatin' to the oldies, singing along and dropping the lbs!
I used the original 'Sweatin to the Oldies' VHS tapes for years. Having put on some weight again, first thing I thought of was 'Richard Simmon's Sweatin' to the Oldies'. I'd been in an accident, had 3 spinal surgeries in one yr. and when I was finally recovered.. I had over 70 lbs. to lose! I did it with these exercise tapes, walking and modifying my diet a little. If you've never seen these exercise videos before, they are fun. The music itself will get you moving and rachet up your spirits. I know listening to these old rock'n'roll tunes always make me feel better no matter where I am or what I'm doing. They're great to exercise with. These are low impact aerobic exercise videos. This set is wonderful. You start with the first one and as you improve you move on the the second one and so on. I had all his tapes and once I got into good enough shape, I played a different one each day for variety. One of the good things about RS's videos is you're not watching thin, sweet young things in beautiful exercise outfits. You're watching people of all ages, shapes and sizes in everything from leotards and crop tops to sweats and tees. If you can't keep up... no problem, do what you can and walk in place for a minute or two and then try again. If your heart gets to beating too hard, leave some arm movements out and just move your feet. Little by little you'll be able to do more and more and have fun doing it.

Add Variety To Your Workouts
Disclaimer: I am pretty physically fit. I walk, I bike, I ride horses, I swim, and I do a variety of Wii exercise games off and on. I recently tried Zumba for the first time (the wii game version of Zumba 2). Zumba definitely made me sweat, but I really, truly did not like the music (call me crazy). Also, I found myself a bit put off by the animated instructors (one of them was the spitting image of Kristen Stewart, which was kind of freaky). Anyway....even if I could follow all of the steps, I just couldn't tolerate the music, so I sold my Zumba....after one week.....and ordered this collection. I have never, ever had a Richard Simmons workout tape of any kind before, and I wish I had tried it years...decades...ago. I love most of the music, even though a lot of it is before my time. I love the "live people," even though you can't win points or unlock bonuses. Richard Simmons is funny and fun, and his steps are easy to follow. Honestly, after four days (one day per dvd in this set), in comparing to Zumba, I probably don't sweat QUITE as much, but I got WAY more tired.....because these workouts use your whole body..a lot of arm work, for example, NOT just shaking your hips and moving your feet. I LOVE these dvds. And I am sure that, once I actually get off the couch and DO them instead of just WATCHING them, my workout will be even BETTER. (KIDDING) Today I ordered Sweatin 5 in a set with a toning workout, and one other of Richard's workouts.....so I will have a variety to choose from every day.

Really Great!
I bought this because I wanted something that would be fun, and that involved "dancing", not just a lot of arobic exercises strung together with no flow, etc. I'm 29 and found this set to be really entertaining, fun, and even a good work-out. I was worried about how much of a work-out I would get when I ordered the DVDs, but now that I've done them I see I sure didn't have to worry. About half way through each DVD you really start to feel the burn. Doing these and eating right for 1.5 weeks and I had already lost 3 lbs. Although some people laugh when I say I bought these and love them, that's ok. It's so worth it. And I mean, how can anyone not love Richard's zeal for life? I get some good giggles from him now and then during the routines. One word though, the final DVD in the set is a life lesson kind of thing, not a work-out (you can see this in the description). Although the message is good in it, it's very, very corney and the editing, etc., leaves something to be desired. That's the only down side to this though. Great product and a great price for it!

Sweatin' to the Oldies: The Complete Set
What a fun program to exercise to. The best music. Richard Simmons was so enthusiastic.

It works!!
I'm embarrassed to say that this works. My wife ordered it and I wasn't real thrilled about Sweating to the Oldies with Richard Simmons but thought what the heck. I'll close the blinds and nobody will see me anyways. Richard is kind of a pain but if you stick with it you'll find that it gives you some good exercise and I found that I actually started to enjoy it. It's not a real vigorous workout like P90X but if you get right into it, you will get a nice hour of exercise and raise your heart level a bit as well. Perfect for someone with extra weight you want to shed and for someone a little older who doesn't want anything to extreme.

Don't be fooled by the fun!
These workouts are so fun! But they're real exercise, with warm-ups and cool-downs. The movements are easy to learn and intuitive, because they flow with the music. The participants are all shapes and sizes. Simmons has such an encouraging manner that I feel I'm in an 80's dance studio with him and his class. After two months of working out to these, I'm in better shape, with no injuries. Highly recommend.
