Review "Burgeons with wacky invention, cleverness - and, as I say, a delightful amount of humour. Never getting too silly, or slapstick, it just hits the mark and moves on, forever sprightly, always believable, and surprising to the end." (John Lloyd The Bookbag)"A clever, well-written, face-achingly funny follow-up that should be read by all!" (Scribbler magazine)"This freaky week is a charming way for youngsters to spend some time. It's a finely-judged success, and on its way to being my favourite title for the under-tens for quite some time." (John Lloyd The Bookbag)"Will have you laughing out loud. Large print and a few pictures make this perfect for newly developing readers, and fun for all abilities." (Debbie 'Primary Times' magazine) About the Author Andrew Norriss has written many books for children; he is best known for AQUILA, a novel that won the Whitbread Award and a Smarties Prize, and was made into a BBC television series. Great Stuff!
So I was looking for a book my 7 year old son to read by himself, that was thoughtful and witty and didn't play to the stereotypes of what a little boy should be like. If you aren't a Horrid Henry fan, then this one may be just the thing. This is the second book ( Set in a school - I would really recommend the first book as well) where his best friend, a girl, has already witnessed that whilst Archie always sets out with good intentions, his everyday plans just get scuppered. My son squealed out loud with laughter, and it was a really enjoyable read together. It's funny, well written, plausible (which is why it works so well). And as a grown up, it's a welcome relief to listen to a imaginative story and have some interesting in-roads to talk about all the adventures and wonder what will happen next. We're all hoping that there will be a 3rd book to follow!

A book about Archie for an Archie.;
I admit to having bought this just because it's my sons name. It made him smile when he received and he actually likes the story too so that's a bonus. It arrived quickly and well packaged.

Second Archie story - we love the manic incidents, this time in school
Archie has odd things happen to him every day. This week, we see what happens at school. Best friend Cyd returns, and it's a good thing she does, as Archie might need her help when a teacher accuses Archie of attempting to murder her, and a Brazilian Wandering Spider ends up in the classroom!My son laughed at these chapters, and we both loved the ridiculous situations Archie found himself in, particularly the one involving the toilet on the head of an inspector. Very amusing.The repetition added to the fun - at the end of each day, Archie's mum discovers evidence of his odd day but only becomes exasperated. I enjoyed Archie's weary but accepting headteacher, and really liked the relationship between Archie and Cyd, a great friendship acknowledged.As with the first book, the final chapter links together storylines from the rest of the book, and did it very nicely. My son wanted more and wants me to contact the author to ask if he can write another Archie story.A great week of strange circumstances, we enjoyed reading a chapter a night for a week at bedtimes, and I know my boy would want me to recommend this. It will be very much enjoyed by children aged 6 and above... and their parents! It would also make a great class read in Key Stage 2.

Unbelievable sums it up!!
Silly, far fetched stories about an accident prone boy called Archie, as he lurches his way through a week at school, encountering rare venomous spiders, women professional wrestlers who are also teachers, getting stuck in a store cupboard and more. Just the sort of story an average 7 yr old would like - but not for me.
