Great for artic environments, well designed
Excellent functional design for use in frozen environments. Many Nalgene bottles are impractical for use in extreme cold weather environments and have wide-mouth openings. First problem with these wide-mouth bottles is that you have to stop every time you want a drink and the second problem is that you risk spilling water down the front of you if you are not careful; get wet in extreme cold is not ideal. These bottles however can be used while walking and are easily operated with heavy gloves on to remove the outer cover (protects drinking surfaces from getting dirty if dropped onto muddy surface). Once cover is lifted, the lip on the drinking spout can be pulled to the open position with your teeth, precluding the need to touch drinking spout with filthy hands. I used (2) these Nalgene bottles on New Year's Day to trek up Ben Nevis and temperatures were extreme by the time I reached summit: -17F, winds of 50-70 MPH. One bottle was carried in a case on my rucksack waistband and the other strapped to outside of my rucksack and fully exposed to the environment. After about 4.5 hours, when I went to use bottle strapped to my rucksack it was maybe 30% frozen, but I still had drinkable water. By squeezing it, I was able to break the ice up and continue drinking on way down. Normal sports water bottles would have been frozen solid under these conditions and left me with no drinkable water. BTW, water tastes lovely from these bottles and lacks that crappy, plasticy taste that you get from many non-Nalgene bottles. Worth the premium you pay fro Nalgene.

Nice bottle, brittle lid hinge
I got this bottle for my road bike as in the variable British weather and country lanes there's quite a lot of muck which ends up on the nozzle, even with mudguards.First, the taste is good and a lot less plasticky than some other bottles. I've put it through the dishwasher (without the lid) and it seemed to clean up nicely. It is comfortable to hold and squeeze. The hard nozzle clicks positively in and out and closes when the clear domed cap is folded over. There's a bit of a knack to opening the cap one-handed, but it's not too bad. The cap certainly keeps the nozzle clean. The only downside is that the clear cap is made of quite brittle material and clumsy operation (while cycling) meant that it broke at the hinge.I still use the bottom without the lid, but it's a lot to pay for a bottle without the lid.

Durable Bottle’s ....
These are great bottles , this is the 3rd one l have brought over at least 14 years , my last one got lifted from a changing room ..... so l am really glad that l can still buy them . I had a problem with the first bottles clear cap hinge breaking , but , left the 2nd bottles lid un clipped but shut whilst cycling , l have many Nalgene bottles , even a wide lid 1 litre for the Winter camping pee bottle ...... small ones for concerntrated diralite in hot weather and ones for work , bashed about in the van all the time ..... etc etc ....

Excellent value
I had one of these bottles for years and used it practically every day. It never leaked or split baring in mind you have to squeeze the bottle to get the liquid out and it fits push bike cages or bottle holders. Excellent value and quality and cheaper than most well known makes.

but aside from that it's excellent. Am now just not fully-clipping the lid shut
Have had the clear plastic lid pop-off under vibration from cycle, once, but aside from that it's excellent. Am now just not fully-clipping the lid shut, which suffices for my needs.

Great little bottle
This is a great bottle for the price. I like how the lid is firmly attached to to the bottle itself, and how it closes tightly and securely over the nipple. However it is also very easy to open one handed. More importantly though is this bottle unlike many other cheap bottles doesn't impart that horrible chemical tate to the water that so often is the case with cheap bottles.

Poor quality, avoid
The lid is very weak and broke off during first use. The mouth piece is hard plastic so uncomfortable on your teeth when drinking. I’ve used many different bottles over the last 30 or so years, this is definitely the worst and most expensive

Well made, no taste
Main reason for getting this type is the cover over the drinking spout - keeping road muck off the bit you put in your mouth.Decently made, and even from day 1 never had any taste in the water.
