Original Album Series

These are the British versions of early Hollies albums, and as such do not include such US hits as "Bus Stop." Track listing would have been very useful, although I might have decided not to purchase if I saw how relatively few familiar songs are included. The playing is pretty good, but they were playing mostly covers at that stage in their career, and there are better versions of most of these songs by other artists. But for the price it is still useful to hear what was going on on the other side of the pond.Some other reviewers criticize this set for its mono sound. It was not a problem to me, in fact since the producers of this set likely didn't go back to original studio recordings, they probably couldn't have done a good stereo mix. Most 60s British albums were well mixed in mono, but the stereo version was often a slap-dash, hastily-produced affair with odd separations of instruments and overall sound.

I have really loved the Hollies since there original hayday of the 60's. Yes, I really have been around since then. The sound of the Hollies is rather unique with their fantastic harmonies and rhythmic music. I like all the cds in this box sound really great but there are two things that bug me. First of all, the packaging is rather chincy, if you know what I mean. The box is about the same thickness as a cigarette pack and really hard to remove the cds from it. It is really tight. Secondly, with the exception of "I Can't Let Go", :I've Got A Way of My Own" and "Stop! Stop! Stop!", there are no other singles included. Shame on you Warner. That's another thing, Warner released these discs using the Parlophone label from EMI. What's up with that? Did EMI go out of business? The original album series is a great idea, but, at least give the packaging some breathing space for the discs.

though only one song in this collection made it to their "Anthology", the albums included show a band trying to find their own sound while doing great covers of the hits of the day.

This five CD set of the Hollies is really good it has a lot of tracks I have never heard before so in my view if your a Hollies fan than this is for you and even if your not an Hollies fan I am sure you would like this five CD collection Morris

All the songs were done well, not many hits but is a well produced effort. Love it!

3.5 Stars is more accurate.You'll listen a couple of times then you'll probably burn a cd to augment your Anthology Set.

Great to hear these hits again and since I never owned these albums before It was good to hear them ones that were new to me.Minor downside is the mono but still well worth it for Hollies fans.

not a good selection of cds

This is a fantastic collection!. I was a dedicated fan back in the 60s and bought loads of their records and albums. I have the original LPs of all 5 of these collections but it's been a long time since I have heard the songs, we got rid of our record player years ago as it was in a big cabinet. I sometimes play my CDs of The Hollies (I have a collection of those too) and thought it would be good to hear the old songs again. I searched and there it was! 5 of my albums together. Of course I had to order it and playing the CDs one by one brought all the memories back of what I was doing back then. As soon as a song started I remembered all the words and could sing along. This was the case for every song, I played them so much that I knew all the words and can still remember them 50yrs later. Thank you for this collection!

It doesn’t even rate a * out of 5 mono discs there is only 3 Hollys hits!! 90% of the records I don’t even recognise

It's fun to discover the Hollis like that, just a pity many of their hits songs don't show up in these albums because they came out as singles
