Must admit I remember it being in colour

I love this set of Munsters programs from the early 60s. I know it’s a bit simple and not to everyone’s taste but 60 years later I still love it. Fred Gwynne was a genius at being funny. These have been reproduced to a superb quality. Cant fault it. There isn’t much you can say about it really, if you don’t like the Munsters then that’s it done and dusted, but if you love them buy this boxed set, don’t think you’d be dissapointed.

Funny 60s comedy. Good to see again

For anyone unfamiliar with the Munsters, this was a 1960s TV comedy series centred around a traditional American family that consisted of a Frankenstein monster as the head of the household (Herman) his vampire wife (Lily) her vampire father (Grandpa) and the young werewolf son (Eddie). There is also a glamorous blonde niece (Marilyn) who is fully human and regarded by the rest of the family as being so unattractive that she has trouble keeping her boyfriends.The Munsters live in a massive creepy old house full of cobwebs with a huge basement that Grandpa regularly uses for his dodgy experiments that usually result in disaster. There is also a dinosaur type creature kept under the stairs (Spot) which is heard but never seen.The running gag throughout the series is that the Munsters believe they are a traditional wholesome American family but most outsiders run a mile when they see them, hence Marlyn's inability to keep her boyfriends.Whilst all of this may sound totally bonkers, it is genuinely funny with some great script writing, slapstick comic timing and an obvious rapport between the cast who, are all quite charming. The 72 episodes run for around 25 minutes each and there is not one hint of smut or innuendo, just well timed traditional comedy that you do not get nowadays.I enjoyed this first time around as a child during the 1960s, but it seems even funner now and I would recommend it to anyone who likes good clean humour that you can watch over and over again.

One of the funniest shows ever. Really cheered me up over some bad times that i have been going through. Various re-makes with different cast over the years can't hold a candle to the 1960's original. Essential!
