Does the lid still fit on when its half size

Yes the lid does fit when half size. It folds in half and has velcro to fix it to the box. I have it half size in my car all the time and only extend it when I've been shopping. It's need and tidy and quick and easy to extend.

I’m confused by the dimensions . What’s the height please?

As measured in the boot of my car in Centimetres .... External dimensions = 64 long (including the handles), 35 wide, 30 high Internal dimemsions = 55.5 long, 34 wide, 28 high There is a certain amount of give and take, as the box has some flexibility, although its good at retaining its overall shape. I'd recommend this item - its has held lots of heavyish gear (car tyre toolkit and wrench) as well as my previously-bagged stuff (tyre inflator kit, maps, tow rope, blanket) and been accessed on and off over the months. The top uses velcro to seal down onto the sides, which I expected to be poor, but it holds well, feels secure and peeals away for access easily. Other claims that the box doesn't slide around much in the boot are also valid. Mine is on a boot-liner which is plastic rather than carpet, and it doesn't slide much on that. Hope this helps.

Are the larger 3 sections big enough for a hard hat and rigger boots?

Plenty big enough. This has an amazing amount of space in it and the section dividers can be removed.

Does anyone know what the weight is of an empty bag?

Not sure of the weight but it’s light and incredibly strong. Used it on numerous camping trips and it carries most of our food including bottles and cans. It’s still looking brand new too
