Founded in 1990 in Helsinki, Finland-based melancholic metal masters, Amorphis have written music history over the years, with classic albums such as their debut: 'The Karelian Isthmu' and their breakthrough release: 'Tales from the Thousand Lakes'. This, their twelfth studio album, 'Under the Red Cloud' is another heavy, melodic statement. Review: Another Tomi Joutsen era classic. - Tomi Joutsen's era is the best thing that has ever happened to Amorphis. I hope he remains with the band till the end of time and beyond haha The music they provide us with and Tomi's vocals is the perfect blend of melody and heavy guitars. There is not one bad album out of Eclipse. Silent Waters. Skyforger. The Beginning of Times. Circle. And now Under The Red Cloud. It's like these guys are on a continuous winning streak. Truth be told I never want this era of Amorphis to end. I'd sleep with a Ninja Turtle to make sure it didn't end. Thank you guys for the wonderful music. Under The Red Cloud - 5 stars. Review: One of the best pieces of metal music out there - One of the best pieces of metal music out there, at least in recent years. I would even recommend this to people not particularly into metal, maybe those with a penchant for deep male voices. The vocalist, Tomi, is one of my personal favourites in the entire metal industry. As for the product itself, no faults at all. The CD runs perfectly, all the artwork is stunning and the paper and cardboard are great quality/

Another find
Spotify strikes again! I heard the live version of Her Alone that appears on the bonus disc and was completely blown away. As an old school collector having it on Spotify didn’t cut it, so I bought the album. What a fantastic group they are. Fabulous songs, gorgeous melodies, brilliant guitar playing. 5/5 any day of the week.

Highly recommended album
Absolutely love this album. It's definitely one of the best albums Amorphis ever made. Had to wait for it a long time though. It took 3 weeks to get from England to Ireland, which I find strange, since the seller told me it was dispatched after 2 days.

Japan lmt. ed.
This is the most awesome album I listened to this year. The japan bonus track 'The Wind' could easily have been a main track.

Awesome!
This is possibly The Album of The Year. Certainly it is a momentous achievement by Amorphis in the way it combines Prog and Heavy elements. Great to have in the car and drive to.

Awesome
I'm new to Amorphis having been introduced to this album by a friend. I've been listening to it on repeat and I'll be looking at their other albums because this album is absolutely awesome.

Under the Red Cloud is my introduction to Amorphis, and ... wow! What band puts forth a masterpiece like this 25 years into their career? I am not the sort of person who listens only to metal -- classic, album-oriented rock is my go-to genre -- and the five stars I'm giving this album should be considered in that context. This is not just "5-star metal", but "5-star music". Yes, there is some growling (gorgeously interwoven with clean vocals), but this music shares as much in common with RUSH, Yes, or Mozart as it does with bands like Emperor. Nor is this progressive for the sake of being progressive, like so much disappointing "progressive metal" I've tried to listen to. Chord progressions actually progress, the tempo changes have purpose and meaning in the overall construction of each song. Each of the tracks on this album is a fully-realized composition, not merely a bunch of interesting-but-unrelated musical bits cobbled together. The musicians on this album are all top-notch, with special mention going to Santeri Kallio, who demonstrates keyboard chops better than any I've heard in a long, long time. The vinyl is pricey (here in the U.S., anyway), and worth every single penny. Impressive quality and presentation, from the thick gatefold cover to the archive-quality sleeves. The LPs themselves are clean and quiet. The mastering is astonishingly good, with even the most delicately soft sounds elicited with perfect clarity. If you love rock, or heck any music at all, do not miss this album, the best I've heard all year.

I see that a number of .com reviewers have expressed my thoughts very well, so I'm only repeating here what some others have already said. Yes.... everything you've heard is true. This is arguably the best release from Amorphis ever (by a wide margin imho). Like another reviewer, I was not what you'd call a die-hard Amorphis junky. I've always had a ton of respect for the band, don't get me wrong. While bands like Insomnium and Ghost Brigade tend to occupy my CD player almost all the time, Amorphis was something I'd listen to once in a while. While they'd 'do it' for me on a number of songs, other songs were a tad more 'laid back' for my tastes. Hey - it's always good but I like something with more 'heaviness'. Well, someone dumped a truckload of testosterone in their CornFlakes, because this album is relentlessly and consistently aggressive from start to finish. It brings da heavy, albeit in their own unique way. As always, the music is great and the lyical content is intelligent - but you'll find your head snapping back and forth almost as if you're listening to "Primeval Dark" by Insomnium. The best part is that it doesn't let up AT ALL - all 12 tracks are killers. It's an incredible achievement, gotta say.

Pourquoi moi?
