Thomson Pottery Kenya 16 PC Dinnerware Set Service For 4

This was a wedding gift for my very dear friends and they love it. The dinnerware looks far more expensive than it really is and the quality is definitely commensurate with products costing several times what I paid for this set.

The dishes arrived broken

This is really just a pretty, cheap set of dishes. They looked great on the website, and I wanted new mix-and-match dishes to replace my early 1980's Pfaltzgraff. Mixed with other colors of the same design, it is a pretty table, but the dishes themselves just seem kind of cheap. The dinner plates are the biggest plates I have ever seen! They are much bigger than I expected, but I should have been more careful in selecting this set and should have done more research, even though I read the reviews and they seemed to generally be positive. Several dishes arrived broken, but I did get replacements without difficulty. The coffee cups went right into storage, as no one here drinks coffee and we have plenty of other more useful cups. The return costs would have been astronomical, so I will keep them for occasional use.

This dinnerware was beyond my expectations. It is nice and heavy but, has the feel of china. Gorgeous color. We love it.

Box arrived undamaged but items inside were broken. Not a good packing job. Hope the reorder comes intact. I have other colors that I bought directly from a store and really like them. Heavy but love the different colors.

Previously, I had ordered the Yellowstone, but wanted a complimentary color to go with it. I saw that Kenya had some shades of gold in it, so I thought I'd give it a try. I didn't order these from Amazon because the price had gone up considerably since I bought the Yellowstone, but I found these elsewhere for almost $30 less.I think I like the Kenya even better than the Yellowstone, especially the mugs. They look like they're made out of wood, which I love. The swirl pattern is really beautiful, and each piece is slightly different, which I also like.Because my hands don't have much strength any more, I like the fact that the dinnerware isn't heavy like Fiestaware and many other brands; therefore, there's less chance that I'll drop and break these.There are a couple of things I wish Thompson Pottery would do. (1) Sell pieces separately. I might want four more dishes, but not any more mugs. In fact, I didn't need any more mugs to begin with, but they were part of the package, and I'll probably give some away. (2) Make bowls that are not so big around and shallow. I can use the bowls that come with this set for quite a few things, but would rather have a smaller, taller bowl for other things.Other than that, this is really great dinnerware for a fraction of the price of other brands, and I'm very happy with it.
