Brother DCP-L2500D A4 Multifunction Mono Laser Printer

Recently purchased this product from Amazon and compared to my old Canon Pixma model which only used ink cartridges this model far supersedes it. It has double sided printing which cuts down on paper costs. It is fast and not at all noisy as compared with my old model. The fact that the ink does not dry out and can be used again and again without worrying about the cost of those ink cartridges. I am really pleased with this make and model as it does all my printing.photocopying and scanning without any fuss and is very simple to operate as well. I would highly recommend this particular model as it does all it says on the tin and is not expensive to buy and neither is the replacement ink toners which use a powder as compared to ordinary ink.

This is a basic laser printer which performs well, within its stated specification. Quality and speed of printing are good and pages can be printed double-sided if desired. The printer can also be used as a stand alone copier. There is no wifi connection available with this machine But for someone who does not require wifi, this is a selling point! At current prices on Amazon the same printer with wifi costs about £40 more. The detailed instructions are only available online and, frankly, they are disappointing. The authors have included within one document a range of instructions covering machines with different capabilities. The result is a whole tract of writing with a maze of conflicting instructions and exclusions throughout. As an online document the instructions do not cost the manufacturers much beyond the initial drafting. A competent technical author should be able to produce a model-specific document in an hour or two. This would be far more helpful to a new purchaser trying to get to grips with an unfamilar machine. Update. After having this machine for a year I have only occasionally needed to print double-sided. Each time I have had to refresh my memory of how to do so with this machine. The online instructions are very, very difficult to use. So I have removed one star from my original recommendation.

I am overall dissatisfied with this printer in regards to value for money, since all the hidden costs associated with the purchase are not adequately described. The toner that comes with the printer is useless - in my case, it ran out after no more than 200 pages of printing. So if deciding to make this purchase, do keep in mind that only after minimal use, you will have to spend an additional 30-50% of the purchase price of the printer to continue to use it. Additionally, the printer comes without a USB cable. Although this might be no big deal if you already happen to own the particular cable, in case you don't, you will have to account for an additional £8-10. So that considered, the real price of this printer is close to £150 rather than the £106.80 as advertised. It makes me angry where the real cost of a product is not made transparent. If I knew this information at the time of purchase, I probably would have made an informed decision and bought a different machine that was better value for money. To be fair, however, in all other respect the machine is reasonably well designed, does more or less what it is supposed to do, prints fast and the software and interface are ok and intuitive to use.

It works great with windows, and I presume mac &c, but, despite advertising linux support, making it work is a long and arduous process, especially for the scanner.

Bought refurbished from the amazon warehouse. Perfect printer and scanner duo, I use it extensively for uni and my family use it regularly also. The supplied toner has lasted much longer than I thought it would- about half a year so far. Not the most compact of printers but thats to be expected. Scanning is made very easy with the display screen on the printer, as is photocopying from scanner to printer.

Purchased this as a replacement for a Brother 2040 laser I purchased many years ago as rollers had got shiny and paper began rucking up.. Easy to install it is much faster than my old model. It prints well but I share the concern of other reviewers have that the two line LED screen is very difficult to read. I have the unit in my home built in office below desk top height and now when the printer sends me a message I have to get my torch out to read it. Don't understand it as the old model printer managed a lighted instruction screen. Had the machine a couple of weeks now and it does all I want but I would be unable to recommend it if its to be kept on a pull out shelf unless you buy a torch. Shame as I have a brother colour printer and the last mono printer all worked really well with no problems.

Replaced my ink jet printer with this. It starts and prints quickly. Very easy to set up and operate. Its only black & white, not colour, but worth that sacrifice for the reliability and speed.

It is OK. and I am learning to live with it. Instructions are very poor and, of course , you have to find and download them on the internet. The quality of the print is perfectly adequate but not exactly dazzling compared with my previous Canon Pixma inkjet. To print envelopes is an absolute pain ! One has to open flaps, rearrange levers and adjust tabs and feed envelopes in one at a time. Diabolical ! In fairness , the price is very attractive, so perhaps I expect too much
