Sewing with Whimsy

Sunday dresses all around
Since I love the idea of using one 'standard' pattern and changing it to your taste with the many ideas they present in the book, I bought this thinking I would love this book. I think the writing is all very clear (even though I haven't tried a project yet) and the pictures are nice and helpful, I was just soooo disappointed with how old fashiond the patterns are that they are using. To me all the projects feel like Sunday or special occasion dresses. And my little girl just doens't go for that. Also... I really think most pieces of clothing should be fairly easy to whip up, but these are extensive projects which take a lot of time. Granted you can pick and choose, if you go for the easy pattern without any whimsy, you'll be done quick. But there's nonein the book, that my little girl would like to wear. Even with different fabric choices. I realize it's of personal taste, but we just only have so many Sunday's in a week! I'm still debating if I should actually return it or not. I do like the many ideas that they use to play up a dress, but when I went through the book most of them seem fairly simple. Take a good look inside the book, I think you get a pretty good taste of what the book is about. If it's your taste, go for it... If it's not I wouldn't buy it.

Very clear and easy to follow instructions, patterns are diversified with a lot of inspiration
I am a beginner in sewing who loves to sew lovely dress for my little girls. And I bought 4 books : Sewing with Whimsy, More sewing with Whimsy -Kari Mecca, Girls style Book by Yoshiko Tsukiori, and Girl's World: Twenty One sewing projects for little girls. And I start with Sewing with Whimsy immediately. The book offer step - by - step instructions with images, which is very clear and easy to understand. What I love more about this book is it shows you and inspires you how to make a small change to the same pattern to have a completely new look for the dress. So with one pattern, you can create different beautiful dresses. I Sooo love the Inspiration that the book gives me. Thank you so much kari Mecca <3

Gorgeous, wonderful techniques make the clothes heirlooms
WOW! I have already made the cover dress for Easter and turned out great! Note: When you go to gather the wrap sleeves, GOOD LUCK! With all those layers and no ruffler foot, it didn't work. So I scrunched it. ALSO, made the Adorable You dress for my 8 yr. old. She was in pink princess mode all during Easter and also looked great. Altogether worth every penny and then some. Wish patterns weren't printed on both sides of paper. You have to trace. Techniques are wonderful, decently explained, but time consuming. But, those extra touches make the clothes an heirloom and expression of love.

Wonderful second book
I purchased the second book first and then I purchased the first book. But the first book I purchased was great. This one was also good. The flowers (that was the main reason to purchase these books) are just adorable with easy directions. Some are not easy to make; not a problem, I just made the easy ones. I hope Kari has some new books. I like the Whimsy Stick idea, but they are expensive. Make sure to peruse the directions before investing in the Sticks. Other than that, I am very, very satisfied with this purchase.

Beautiful dresses decorated with beads, ribbons and rickrack.
What a delightful little book complete with patterns for a basic dress. The key is the embellishments. I can't wait to try some of these.

Needs more variety. The dresses are darling.
It's a very good book but I was expecting a wider variety of projects. I would have likes more ideas on using ric rack for embellishment. The dresses are really cute and worth the cost of the book.

i love it but i can't find the materials
I love the ideas and the designs. It does make you not want to stop sewing.I am new to sewing and finding the materials have been very frustrating for me even when using the resources listed in the book. This is the only reason i gave it 4 and not 5 stars

A Keeper!
An excellent combination of inspiration (illustrations) and education (instruction). Nice lay-out, user friendly with lots of inspiring photographs and well written instructions. Although there are a few children's patterns included in the book, I'm already incorporating some of the trim concepts into projects for myself! My sewing resource (keeper) bookshelf isn't large, but this one has already earned a spot there...highly recommended!

Love, love
Love, love, love it! I was not disappointed. Wonderfully presented, with easy instructions. Vintage patterns with luxurious updated finishing/trim techniques...the stuff of tea parties and fairyland.I haven't used any of these patterns/finishing techniques yet, but as an experienced designer/sewer (50 yrs) I can say that this book takes me down memory lane. I have 6 granddaughters and I can't wait to begin!

Bezaubernde Kleider
