Q: Am I the only one that got this with rubber seals that stink to high heaven & deeply penetrated the wine ruining a half-bottle of wine?

Yes. I used to love this product but the silicone has started to smell more and more toxic over time. Tried washing but then it absorbs soap taste. Used baking soda. No joy. It ruins wine. Safer leaving in the bottle.

Q: Does this seal as effectively as the more expensive glass version?

the seal is based on the edge of the float being *close* to the edge of the bottle. the mechanism is identical glass or plastic, i bought the plastic so i could have red and white wine on-tap for the same price as one glass one.

Q: Is this the glass carafe?

Yes, the carafe is glass. The interior "float" is plastic of unknown origin. The "rubber" seal for the float the the seal used for the lid is of some completely horrid and "hold-your-nose" material that should be as far from wine as possible.

Q: I want to get one but I am reading concerning comments about 'the rubber float' feedback please....

The float is rimmed with a rubber seal. The plastic used in the product is Tritan. From the web: "Tritan plastic offers lightweight durability like nothing else out there." "Tritan plastic is the safest plastic in the world. Not only is Tritan BPA-free, but it is also free from BPS (bisphenol S) and ALL other bisphenols. Certain Tritan plastics are also considered medical-grade, meaning they are approved for use in medical devices." Although I found this, I'd say be careful about using a dishwasher because there are non-plastic parts in the product. "Tritan plastic is dishwasher safe, and it won’t warp in the hot water. It also won’t lose its luster wash after wash."
