Comparison review here. I wanted a very high quality black lacquer pen with chrome finish...but without paying a ridiculous amount for a pen. Figured I should be able to accomplish that for $60-80. I first bought the Parker Sonnet for $60. When it arrived, it was much thinner than I expected. It's a very nice pen. Solid feel, very nice finish. But due to the size, it feels and looks more like a pen for a woman. I decided to give it to my wife. I then went searching for a thicker pen that was at least as long as the Parker, and found this one. The Pros: Good size and good weight, and as such, nice feel in the hand. And I think it looks nice. Ink flow seems solid. But then again, I just got it, so I would hope so! The Cons: The twist mechanism feels, and sounds, kind of cheap. It's what I consider a little loose. By contrast, the Parker Sonnet has a dampening that makes the opening and closing firmer. Personally, I prefer Parker's twist mechanism to Waterman's. In fact, because of the solid twist mechanics, and maybe also the smaller/tighter dimensions - the Parker has a slightly more solid feel to it. I would probably rate this a 3.5 because of this, if there was another digit. The pros outweigh the cons. But for a $70+ pen, I would expect the twist mechanism to feel worth that price. And for me, this Waterman falls short of that.

The bad news first off. Nothing comes to mind. When I opened up the blue box the hinge took a push, not self opening. The lining is plush, soft and pal amino beige in color. The black enamel and the chrome trim is flawless. A correction. It’s Palladium. Not chrome. As are all the silver colored bands. The twist mechanism opened and closed smoothly with no grinding or stiffness after doing this both rapidly and slowly ten times. I will use this pen on a daily basis. I also have ballpoints from three other manufacturers of a similar elk. There is no comparison. Mostly, this pen is great fun to use. I just purchased four other Waterman ball points for BB Christmas presents to members of my family. Be prepared to spend some more money; refills aren’t included but they are very available. I suggest that you include a pack with your order. I’ve used this pen in my work in health care since 1975. Some companies do things right. Like Waterman of Paris.

The pen has good ergonomics and fits well in the hand. Not too slim or too big. The hardware on the pen is a shiny platinum look. It is a nice departure from the usual gold tone. The pen feels substantial in the mechanics of deploying the ballpoint. Well made and most importantly, writes well. Would buy it again.

I got this ballpoint pen with a discount and I am very satisfied. It's a very decent writing instrument, which will certainly add sophistication to my office desk. Its smooth writing performance is impressive too. If you usually write with lighter, thinner pens, you may find this ballpoint pen a bit heavier. I'm okay with it as I prefer a thicker barrel, which is more comfortable to me.
