Great reference book for a beginner sewist
This is my first dressmaking guide book after I bought my first sewing machine in May 2020.Initially I didn't know how to begin learning how to dress make (well not just dresses) and scrambled my way through many Youtube videos, but it overloaded my brain and then I decided to buy this book based on the mostly great reviews. It doesn't disappoint! It covers all the information I need as follow:- Essential equipments, needles to use for different fabrics (with pictures), different cutting tools, machine anatomy (which I already learned from my machine manual and videos), Presser feet, choosing threads, haberdashery- How to prep your project (understanding, choosing, working with fabrics, bought patterns, measuring, fitting a toile, adapting patterns)- Techniques on putting things together (darts, gathering, pleats & tucks, shirring, seams, pockets, openings, buttons & buttonholes, hooks & eyes, zips, sleeves, cuffs, yokes, waistbands, decorative features like piping, frills & flounces, topstitching, etc.)- Working with STRETCH fabric- Finishes: bound edges, facings, understitching, edge stitching, hemming,, hand sewing, lining. What I find great is there are many Tips to follow and each technique has a step by step picture how-to.With all the great things in this book, I think it still can be improved as some of the pictures are quite difficult to imagine (not detailed enough) without actually doing the project so I read read this book from beginning to end and watching videos on YouTube along side it. Sometimes I watch different videos on the same topic just to understand better. Now I know what's in this book when I pick a pattern I study the info on the pattern and then find the corresponding section on this book. I then write down importing things I need to remember to do on a project notebook.Even though it felt daunting in the beginning, I felt more assured and really enjoying learning this new skill; and I am pleased this book will be used quite often for many more projects to come).I have put pictures up on some projects I've worked on so far and I have used different kind of fabrics from curtain fabric for cushions, Batik (cotton), Jersey and Viscose (which I find the trickiest so far! ).Thank you for reading and if my review has been useful please consider hitting the like/helpful button.Note: I have put reviews on other patterns I used. If you would like to see and read them click on my profile and scroll through.

Great book
Comprehensive guide on dressmaking for the beginner and intermediate sewist. I borrowed the book from a library first before purchasing, it's a good guide and shows most techniques required to make items from paper patterns, including how to make adjustments if required.

Good for anyone wanting to start dress making
Complete guide to dress making. looks like it will be a very useful book, I have given it 3 star's because I have only just started to read it and need to look further before I can give it a proper rating. The book arrived a day late which isn't great when you are waiting in for it.Some of the pattern fitting info is a little confusing for a total beginner, but there are a great deal of step by step photos and descriptions to help with understanding dress making pattern's, sewing terms and much more. Some of the information is a little too beginner for myself like the basics on sewing machine feet, and needles but if your just starting out it will be very helpful. Also helpful hints and tips along side some of the pages. Which can help if things are not quite going right.

Jules Fallon, good teacher, useful book
Very informative book of dressmaking techniques, no actual sewing patterns, which was not a problem, but I would have liked a note of how to source patterns for some of the examples (in particular the camisole shown to demonstrate lace insertion)
