Don't Bother!
Such a tedious book I gave up on it halfway through.I wanted to like it I really did, I love style and glamour and Coco Chanel is the ultimate style icon. But this book was devoid of style, fun or any va va voom whatsoever.Written in a plodding way it was seriously lacking entertainment value and I couldn't even tell you a single tip or nugget of wisdom contained therein! The author has achieved the near impossible with this book - she has made Coco Chanel boring! If you want a gorgeous, glamorous fun book on the subject of style and/or the great Chanel, go elsewhere for this one sadly isn't it.

waste of money
I read a lot of fashion books. This one has nothing useful to offer, either in terms of Coco Chanel's life, or in so-called "l;ife lessons"

Blame All Your Unhappiness on the Love for Chanel
I have split views on this book. I liked some parts so much that it made me want to remember every word; yet unfortunately, I had to cringe while reading other chapters. It felt like the author herself had the same feeling about Chanel - she seemed to like Chanel designs and her knack for dramatic love affairs/'jois de vivre', yet she did not like the way she treated others and how she, somehow and against all odds, finished every race victorious. Karbo's research is good, but the book is clearly written from an American point of view and includes many worn out cliches about Chanel, the French people, Europe...the list is endless. I am way too proud of being European and admire Chanel way too much, for both her intelligence to get ahead as well as her creative genius, to be able to savour this book to its author's intention, hence only a mediocre three star rating; it is a good read but just do not expect too much.

Not such a great read.
A while back I received as a gift a collection of Vogue books on fashion designers, the one that intrigued me the most was Coco Chanel. Naturally, I wanted to know more about her. I purchased this book since it had an interesting title and appeared to be a fun read. Although there is enough information about her life, I perceived the author to be judgmental which I didn't like. There is only one picture of Coco, the rest are just drawings like the one on the cover. The last chapter, chapter 12 "On Elegance", summarized the gospel (according to the author) and it was a fun and light ending of the book. I am now reading Coco Chanel The Legend and The Life by Justine Picardie and I am enjoying it a lot more!

lousy book
I wasted my money and time reading this piece of crap. I could have got much more stuff had I just googled. However the writer is very talented. Read it only if you want to read beautiful language. Chanel comes across as an annoying woman, least inspirational. I was turned off to read she's lying a lot. Its really better not to read this book.

A Mademoiselle For All Ages
Nobody needs another biography of Gabrielle Chanel. But this book is much, much more – and great fun to read. By uncovering the strategic chuzpah behind the astounding career of the peasant girl from Obazine that became one of the 20th century’s leading game-changers (the anti-Marilyn, if you want), Ms Karbo has written a must-read for 21st century women on the go. No matter what’s her age, nationality or political leaning, every woman on the planet can profit from Coco’s blue-print of a life.

Surprisingly informative!
I smugly thought, I knew quite a lot about Chanel and her life, having read many books, and having seen movies, about her as well. She was in my view a fascinating, elusive woman. I found this book well researched, fun to read, and informative. I learned a great deal more about her, and it provided me with a better appreciation, for what a creative genious, she really was. Bravo!

CHANEL'S GOSPEL
Witty, inspiring and educational, this irreverent book captures the soul of a 20th century fashion icon as few others have done. Coco the whole woman is presented here in all her nastiness and brilliance. Loved every page!!!

print and pictures are of poor quality. The way book is edited, it comes across very unplanned.

A fun and educational book to read.
This was an enjoyable book to read. It was entertaining while educating on Coco Chanel's life and personality. I think both men and women would enjoy the book for its social and business content. The author provides the material from the viewpoint of today while filling us in on the era of Coco Chanel. I would recommend the book.
