This restored, animated valentine to the Beatles offers viewers the rare chance to see a work that's been substantially improved by its technical facelift, not just super-sized with extra footage. Recognising that its song-studded soundtrack alone makes Yellow Submarine a video annuity, United Artists has lavished a frame-by-frame refurbishment of the original feature, while replacing its original monaural audio tracks with a meticulously reconstructed stereo mix that actually refines legendary original album versions. What emerges is a vivid time capsule of the late 1960s and a minor milestone in animation. The music represents the quartet's zenith-- Rubber Soul , Revolver and Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band . The story line, cobbled together by producer Al Brodax and a committee of writers, is a broad, feather-light allegory set in idyllic Pepperland, where the gentle citizens are threatened by the nasty, music-hating Blue Meanies and their surreal arsenal of henchmen, with the Beatles enlisted to thwart the bad guys. Visually, designer Heinz Edelmann mixes the biomorphic squiggles, day-glo palette and Beardsley-esque portraits of Peter Max with rotoscoped still photographs and film; Edelmann's animated collages also nod to Andy Warhol and Magritte in properly psychedelic fashion, which works wonderfully with such terrific songs. High-orthodox Beatlemaniacs can still grouse that the animated Fab Four are (literally) flat archetypes, but that's missing the sheer bloom of the music or the giddy, campy fun of the visuals. Making sense of the story is second to submerging blissfully in the sights and sounds of this video treat. --Sam Sutherland Animated feature for the Fab Four. The Beatles - John (voiced by John Clive), Paul (Geoffrey Hughes), George (Peter Batten) and Ringo (Paul Angelis) - are shocked to be transported to a world inhabited by the evil, apple-wielding Blue Meanies. Travelling to Pepperland in their yellow submarine, the foursome attempt to halt the Meanies reign of terror by showing them that all you really need is love. The real Beatles make a cameo appearance at the end of the film. Review: Good one to watch and enjoy. - Love the Beatles, love this. Great animation and brilliant songs. Great package of a classic film
I remember this film so clearly from my childhood but haven't seen it for years. Very happy that I bought this blu-ray - nice clear, crisp picture and sound, housed in a well designed slip-cover with various, interesting, extras, including a booklet, stickers etc. Recommended. When we watched it, as children, 64 seemed so far away and yet, here we are already!

Classical and wonderful musical movie with extras that are worth buying.
I had seen this movie on TV and being fond of the Beatles and their music, decided to buy this DVD but it was shown on Amazon. When I got this, I found out that I got more then what I was expecting. This one is a special edition as not only does it have a few extra things as well as the movie itself but also had some stills of the colourful drawn characters from the movie on actual clear acrylic paper and the colours stand out when placed behind a white background. The movie is just how I had seen it with the colourful animated characters, a tense storyline together with catchy music, some from the Beatles famous album Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band that is based around this movie. For any fans of the Beatles, I would highly recommend buying this DVD as it contains some extra items that are well worth keeping together with some classical 60s memorabilia that helped made the Beatles very popular worldwide.

a superb quality Blu-ray of a classic film
This is the "Yellow Submarine" on Blu-ray - a full-length animated film, from 1968, featuring a very psychedelic Beatles on a mission to save Pepperland from the Blue Meanies ... It's a cartoon classic that been fully restored and digitally re-mastered, with 4K picture quality and Dolby 5.1 surround sound. Comparing this new version to the old DVD release - The Beatles: Yellow Submarine [DVD] [1968 ] (which I bought in 2002) - the improvements are amazing. The clarity and definition of the images is superb, and the colours are vivid and far brighter. While there's not much more included in terms of special features, the item does include some artwork and stickers. The story involves a musical paradise, full of peace and love, being attacked and conquered by the Blue Meanie invasion force - intent on ridding this place, Pepperland, of joy and colour. Yet one man, Captain Fred, manages to escape in his yellow submarine ... and he goes in search of the Beatles - who, through their singing, possess the means to stopping the meanies. Fortunately, the Beatles agree to take part in this quest - and the adventure begins. On their way to Pepperland, we witness the Fab Four visit a myriad of strange and wondrous places (as well as meeting the Nowhere Man). And, finally, as the Beatles sing so the evil powers of the Blue Meanies fade away. This is a very surreal animated film, made in 1968 - immediately following on from the 'Sgt. Pepper' and 'Magical Mystery Tour' phase of the Beatles career during the Summer of Love. It's fun and entertaining, not least because of the fantastic music. Four (then) new songs were included in the movie: 'All Together Now', 'Hey Bulldog', 'Only A Northern Song' and 'It's All Too Much'. Several other Beatles songs also feature, including 'Eleanor Rigby', 'When I'm Sixty-Four', 'Nowhere Man', 'Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds', 'All You Need Is Love', and the title track 'Yellow Submarine'. The album is available: Yellow Submarine Songtrack . It's a shame that Lennon, McCartney, Harrison and Starr didn't provide the voice work in the film, although the voice actors do a great job. And, fortunately, the Beatles make a (brief) appearance at the end. The animation itself is brilliant, albeit often creatively weird. If you're a Beatles fan then I highly recommend this movie. It's fun for children and adults alike, and now stands as a timeless classic.

Excellent and Wonderful - What were you expecting?
One of my all time favourite films. Seems to be a really good and clean transfer to Blu-ray, with good restored original sound - with no THX problems. Massively surreal, beautiful story & great animation - and made by one of the most talented bands of all time. And if you can feel it, Yellow Submarine has real spiritual depth. If you don't have the album already the inspiration for The Yellow Submarine is the Album 'Sargent Peppers Lonely Heart Club Band' which every person who likes this needs to listen to. The Yellow Submarine album is basically the songs from the film and has a few standouts not on Sargent Pepper - eg 'Yellow Submarine', 'Nowhere Man', and 'Bulldog'. (there are two versions with different track lists - the SongTrack version has Nowhere Man and other extra Beatles tracks, while the original version maybe has a better order and the orchestral pieces)
