Not just for Absolute Beginners
First of all, it is not only for Absolute Beginners. The first third of the book IS for absolute beginners, but the remaining part does a good explanation, with excellent examples. This book does an excellent job of parts of Dart that will be new for most developers, such as Futures, Isolates and communication between processes. This is an excellent first book for Dart.It does have some typos, and the author hasn't added them to the Apress web page for the book.Given that this book is targeted for "Absolute Beginners", having these critical typos can be very confusing to the newbie. But overall, this gets 5 stars, for getting most things right.

Nice
Nice book, nice language. I hope it catches on. To elaborate a little further, I find this book well thought out, well organized, and well written. These are still frustratingly rare qualities in technical books. Kopec is clearly passionate about the craft of software engineering and about teaching it to others. As a former computational neuroscience guy, I also appreciate the inclusion of AI topics, which is a good choice considering how commonplace AI is becoming. This is a great book for learning Dart and for taking your first few steps into the vast ocean of software engineering.

Useless in 2020, needs update
The book's examples use "Dart Editor", an IDE which Google no longer supports or offers. Google's replacement IDE for students, DartPad, doesn't support the command line apps in this book. This invalidates book's examples. For example, importing 'dart:io' is no longer possible, so examples which use stdin.readLineSync() no longer work... which is vital... So Frustrating! I am sure it is possible to download some other IDE that is made by some other company, but I have spent hours fruitlessly looking. I am a brand new student and lack experience. I am wasting my time and can't even get started... I wish I would have known this earlier and bought a different introductory book.

I am very happy to see a book targeting people brand new to programming and using my favorite language, Dart. The author does a great job of introducing the concepts in a fun way. The pacing is good, and the book is filled with excellent exercises. I've used this book to introduce a number of newbies to the world of programming, with great success. Congratulations to David Kopec for recognizing Dart's suitability as a first programming language.

Great introductory text
This book does exactly what it set out to do; it is a superlative introduction to Dart. I've been writing code for 40+ years. This text is an efficient way to step into Google's (somewhat murky) Dart world Perhaps more importantly -- it is one of the best introductory texts on computer programming in general; bar none. It has a place in introductory courses on programming. Well done, David Kopec.

Why Dart and why this book
I took a look at this book because one of my buddies, who is new to programming (I'm not), was looking for an introductory book and language to use to start his journey into becoming a programmer. The author is clear, honest, and explains things simply. The language is a good one because the syntax is readable and easy and perhaps most importantly, with Google inventing and backing Dart you know that it's a great language to learn. In particular the chapters on the creation of classes and methods, something that I myself struggle with, deserved specific praise. Highly recommended introduction to programming.

Highly recommended for Dart newbies
It is a dream come true to see a book targeting absolute beginners to programming with such a great language like Dart. The author does a great job of introducing the concepts and the book is filled with good exercises. Highly recommended (if not the best option) to anyone starting with Dart.
