Quality literature for girls
This is a lovely book and demonstrates that fine literature for young people does not have to be "edgy," in the sense of including sex, drugs, crime, abuse etc. Saige and her family do have problems but they are the kind of problems that functional families have, such as her grandmother becoming seriously injured and her school art program being cut from the education budget. The story is engaging and well written, and the illustrations are terrific. I highly recommend this book for all girls from ages 8 on up into their tweens.

Saige (American Girl Today) Book Review
Girls who enjoy riding horses and painting will learn a technique or two in this book. I rated 4 stars because it had a unique setting (Albuquerque, New Mexico), and has some great facts throughout the book. And also, at the end, it includes some bonus letters from girls just like you, and a true story, along with a sneak peek at the second book. Girls of all ages who are fans of American Girls, this book is for you.

Awesome
This book is a quick read, buts it's great all the same. The true story at the end of the book is very inspiring. For those of you who wouldn't read it, READ IT!! The American girl books are very good. I recommend reading this, saige paints the sky, nicki, and thanks to nicki. ALWAYS READ THE SECOND BOOK IN THE DOUBLE!! VERY IMPORTANT.

Good book, but...
This is a good book. I have a lot in common with the main character, Saige. Although, why in the world do the fourth graders have cell phones? And why are they allowed to use them in school? Some things just don't make sense. Anyway, I think that this book is interesting, and the pictures are pretty, too.

American Girl has done it again...
My 9 year became hooked on American Girl at the end of her 1st grade year. She really liked this one. Of course it was right up her alley. Horses and art. I think a lot of American girl's can relate to loving these 2 things. I personally have come to know and love the American Girl line. I know I can trust the content and situations to be appropriate for younger girls but still valid for today's world.

Great girl stories!!!
So excited to gift this to my 6 year old granddaughter who is reading at an 8 year old level. She loves to read and this book will hopefully be something she will find as a healthy challenge. Who wouldn't want to read about a girl and her horse?

Close to Home
When I gave this to my granddaughter, Sage, for her birthday, I had no idea the story was set in New Mexico, where we all live! The girls even look alike! What fun it is to read about places that she knows firsthand! Couldn't be more perfect and I am hoping to inspire her love of reading!

not really enjoyed by my 8 yr old
not really enjoyed by my 8 yr old. too many americanisms but given that it is a book about an american girl in america written by an american, one should expect that but try explaining that to a frustrated 8 yr old
