A Playful Collection of Visual Jokes
I like this book, and I particularly liked and admired the first Postmouse book, ("Mr. Postmouse's Rounds"), because of their emphasis on visual jokes and clever bits of hidden business. The story is simple enough. Mr. Postmouse and his family are off on a grand traveling holiday, and Mr. Postmouse is planning to deliver a few packages to customers along the way. The Postmouse family is pleasant and congenial and the tone of the adventure is welcoming. The narrative is brief, direct and clear, and serves mainly to caption the drawings by identifying the locations and noting the family's activities. (Swimming at the beach, riding camels in the desert, and so on.)What distinguishes the book is the drawings. Each double page drawing establishes a setting. The family vacation theme connects each setting and frames the action. Mr. Postmouse makes deliveries and his family engages in various activities, which gives the scenes some life and action. But from there, everything else is in the details. We see the interiors of the customers' houses, loaded with whimsical details and little jokes. The scenes are filled with bits of silly business and each Postmouse family member is doing something interesting. Lots of secondary characters are in the background going about their activities. There's always something hidden in a tree, or peeking out of the bushes, or fooling around off in the distance. In other words, and it's a bit odd that this is at all surprising, this is a picture book intended and crafted actually to be looked at. There are things for a little reader to find and see, and things to be pointed out. It's like a "Where's Waldo", but instead of one joke over and over there are a lot of jokes, each a bit different. And, despite all of this, the book doesn't feel over-stuffed or crowded. Each silly bit is given enough room to stand out, so the book doesn't feel like a puzzle or challenge; it just feels busy, (the way a good Richard Scarry book feels). So, I'm a fan of Marianne Dubuc's books generally, but these Postmouse books are especially amusing, entertaining and just simple fun. A nice find. (Please note that I received a free advance will-self-destruct-in-x-days Adobe Digital copy of this book without a review requirement, or any influence regarding review content should I choose to post a review. An Amazing Book filled with Awesome Illustrations!
About: Mr. Postmouse Takes a Trip is a fiction children’s picture book written and illustrated by Marianne Dubuc. It was recently published on 4/4/17 by Kids Can Press, hardcover, 24 pages. The genres are fiction, picture book, and travel. This book is intended for readers ages 3 to 7, grades P to 2.My Experience: I started reading Mr. Postmouse Takes a Trip on 4/2/17 as a story time for my 5 year-old son and we finished it on the same day. This book is an awesome read! My son and I loved the illustration. It has random pictures on each page and we had a blast playing the hide and go seek game. Each page is super busy with the characters doing variety of activities and I like how it keeps my son’s attention. He searches for the random things (apple core, pencil, envelop, etc) and checks to see what each character is doing while I read.In this book, readers will follow Mr. Postmouse, a mouse dad locking up his house and post office and taking his family, Mrs. Mouse and 3 kids (Pip, Milo, & Lulu) on a trip around the world (beach, cruise ship, jungle, etc) to deliver some parcels. At each stop, either Mr. Postmouse or Mrs. Mouse or one of the kids would go and deliver the mail, be it a dragon in his living room inside the volcano or a polar bear inside an iceberg. I love seeing inside each animal’s house, especially those house located below the earth’s surface with the stairs leading underground. I like seeing Mr. Postmouse’s family taking off doing their own thing at each new location. Mrs. Mouse shopping for a hat, one of the kids build a fire at camp while another kid relax on a hammock in the oasis. From beginning to the end, there is no dull moment. This book is the best because there are plenty of activities for kids to engage in while they or their parents read the story. Besides hide and seek, there are different shapes visible in each page that parents and their kids can enjoy together. I love the imaginations this book brings. I like the clear view of a home made inside a tree house, a submarine, a cactus, a sandcastle, and many more. This book requires multiple readings and analyzing. I don’t think we will ever get bored of it. I highly recommend this book to everyone!Pro: illustrations, hide ‘n seek, travel, animals, animals’ homes, interactive, location activities, imagination Con: noneI rate it 5 stars!***Disclaimer: Many thanks to Kids Can Press for the opportunity to read and review. Please assured that my opinions are honest.xoxo, Jasmine at howusefulitis dot wordpress dot com

Travel the World with Mr. Postmouse and His Family!
There are many articles online that lament the fact that the electronic age has made it impossible for people to take vacations without taking their work along too. Mr. Postmouse isn’t tied to any electronics (at least, that we can see), but he’s working on his entire vacation in Mr. Postmouse Takes a Trip!In the book, the reader follows Mr. Postmouse and his family as they travel the world—from beach to desert to jungle to an ice field, and many more destinations. Everywhere they go, Mr. Postmouse visits someone and delivers a package or letter. It appears that he loves his job, since he delivers the parcels with a smile on his face and often stops for a visit with the recipient.Mr. Postmouse Takes a Trip is an adorable story that children will enjoy. The illustrations are very detailed, and kids will find something new in the pictures each time they read the book. We had a lot of fun reading it, and I’m sure it is one that we will read again and again in our house!I received an advanced reader copy of this book in exchange for my unbiased review.

Fun reading, lovely illustrated!
Love Mr Postmouse. We spend lots of time studying the pictures and making up stories about all the small, fun things that scattered through the illustrations. Lots of fun paying attention to the detail in the art work and figuring out what Lulu, Milo and Pip are up to!
