Imagine a sappy TV commercial for fabric softener or lemonade or life insurance. You're in the backyard. The sky is radiant blue. There's a kid on a tricycle, a glass of lemonade on a picnic table, and various family members talking and laughing in slow motion. A ray of sun bursts through the laundry that is drying on the clothesline and causes a charming lens flare on the camera. [Stick with me. I'm going somewhere with this, I promise.] Now... think closely about those bedsheets, blowing in the breeze. Get really specific in your imagination. Do those sheets look SILKY? Are they shiny and glossy? Do they look slippery? Nope. They just look like... linen. Or cotton. Crisp, clean, inviting. Those sheets you're picturing - they have a PERCALE weave, not sateen. For years I've been unhappy with the various bedsheets I've owned. Sheets are tricky bastards. I've been hoodwinked over and over. I go to the store, unzip a corner of the packaging, and shove my hand in as far as I can. I close my eyes and try to imagine lying on them. "Oooh, these are so silky and smooth! Oh my giggledy-goggledy-gosh! So soft! I just have to have them!" I giggle like a little girl and fling open my wallet. [SIDE NOTE: For what it's worth, I'm a long-haired straight dude who lives alone in an RV in the woods. But yes, I've been known to giggle.] I race home, wash the sheets, and dive headfirst into my newly made bed. Halfway through the first night, I'm already disappointed. They felt great for the first 2 minutes and then... something's just wrong. Sneaky sheet-bastards tricked me again! But how??? It took me until my 40s to figure it out. I don't want silky sheets. I don't want sateen. I just want sheets that feel like... sheets. I want PERCALE. I spent 20 years touring as an actor - countless nights in hotels. I always loved the feel of hotel sheets. Guess what? They're not sateen. They're PERCALE. Ninety-eight percent of the sheets I see in stores are sateen. I don't know why. PERCALE is the weave that feels like home, comfort, and rest. Say it with me... "Percale." One more time, a little louder... "Percale." Well done. I'm proud of you. As for this particular product by this particular company: California Design Den nailed it. The weight of these sheets is perfect. The fit is perfect. The elastic on the fitted sheet is robust and strong - the sheet stays put. The pillowcases don't fit my pillows quite right, but that's a reflection on my pillows, not the sheets. I love that the pillowcases have an envelope enclosure! The whole product feels like it will last. The price is terrific. PRO TIP: Buy plain white sheets. Trust me. (Remember those sheets you imagined in the TV commercial, blowing in the wind? What color were they?) It really adds to the clean, inviting, floating-off-to-sleep feel. I can't explain it. I've always bought dark-colored sheets before but I will never go back! Plus, you can bleach them if needed. So... Forget about thread count. Forget about "you need to spend 200 bucks to get a great set of sheets." Forget about silky, slippery, and shiny. Forget about "this amazing new micro-fiber bla-bla-bla blend." Forget about patterns and colors. Buy this great set of PERCALE sheets, made by a great company, in plain white, and GO. TO. SLEEP. You need it. Reading this review must have been EXHAUSTING.

Wanted pure cotton sheets. Found these on sale for around $60 for the set Cal King. Not thin and see through like I've seen with other brands. I feel I got what I paid for really. Not soft right out the box but wasn't expecting them to be super soft right off the bat. They are getting softer per wash and are comfortable. great quality to boot!

I ordered this set of organic cotton, king size sheets for my regular king mattress. I really like the fitted sheet which goes on and stays on perfectly for my mattress. This is due in large part to the elastic in the corners which holds the sheet in place despite my fitful, turning and churning sleep at night. The top sheet was the right size as well and is sufficiently large to tuck in at the bottom and sides as needed. The pillow cases were a bit small for my king pillows but will work OK. I like the feel of the sheets as well, The organic cotton is soft against my skin and has a quality feel to it. It's not slick feeling like some polyester blends and it is not so rough that it is scratchy. It's has just the right feel of what I personally think a quality set of sheets should feel like. Overall, I like this organic cotton set of sheets for their fit, feel, and comfort. I would definitely buy again and have recommended them to family.

I got these sheets and have had them awhile with weekly washings so I base this on that. These sheets have been great! Even as they soften with washing and drying they still have kept a crispness to them. They have deep pockets and a thick elastic band that makes them fit great on thick mattresses. They have retained the soft flowers on this print with no noticeable fading. The pillow cases have a pocket in them to prevent pillows from creeping out as well. They are reasonably priced as well! I am a big fan!

Just used for 3 nights so far. They smelled funny when i opened them. But after I Washed them the smell went away. All seems good, and quality made. except they are a little rougher than I anticipated for the price. ($50.) But I will accept that to have Organic and cotton. If they last a decent amount of time, I would buy them again.

I’m giving the sheets I received and will immediately return, five stars because they are beautiful sateen sheets. But, returning because I ordered Percale sheets. Percale sheets are perfect for warm weather sleepers or people who run hot and need a cool, breathable sheet on their bodies. Percale is crisp, cool, breathable and sometimes they appear thin and some say scratchy. Thats the beauty of Percale sheets. They will last many washings. Not forty but years and they do get softer. But if you dry them on a clothes line, the crispness returns along with the freshness of outdoor breezes. These sheets were advertised as Percale but they are not. Run your hand across and if it slides gently with no resistance , it’s Sateen. If it doesnt, it’s Percale.

We've been on a quest to find acceptable cotton, percale weave sheet sets since Amazon discontinued the beloved Pinzon brand. To us, percale sheets are reminiscent of the crisp, robust and cooling sheets of our childhood. So, we've purchased numerous brands and all have disappointed us to some degree. Why is it so hard to obtain sheets that fit well, are properly sized, are consistent lot-to-lot and manufactured with care at a reasonable price? This isn't rocket science. In purchasing numerous brands we have seen huge differences in sizing. In particular the top/flat sheets are all over the place. Some are too narrow and many are simply too short in length. To compound the problem, shopping is challenging as manufacturers publish measurements that seem to be either made-up or established by fourth graders who failed math or ruler skills. In the case of these California Design Den King size sheets the manufacturer got some of it right and some of it wrong. Their published dimensions for the top sheet are 112” wide x 102” long. I only wish! My measurements: 107” wide x 97” long. Come on, where were the Quality Control people? Some folks may say it’s only a bedsheet so who cares? Well, I care because the missing 5” on the length makes these CDD brand sheets almost unusable and I have only a 9” thick mattress and like a little extra sheet at the head end. On the positive side the fit of the bottom (fitted) sheet is spot-on which is a rarity in the industry. The heavy-duty elastic band looks intimidating but with some effort you will be rewarded. The percale fabric is okay, somewhat crisp and I’d call it midrange weight which is perfectly fine at this price point. So, if these CDD King sheets were really 102” long as promised and the price stays somewhat stable, they would qualify as our long term “go-to brand” and have 4 stars. Not so sure right now.

I love percale sheets and don’t want to have to pay an exorbitant price for a king set. I have returned many sets in the past when I’ve reached my hand inside the packages to feel rough and “sticky” polyester fabric. I didn’t even bother hoping to wash and dry them, thinking they’ll magically get better. I’ve been so disappointed so many times in the past that I no longer take the chance I can’t return them. Before I review an item, I always take plenty of photos to show how I formed my honest opinion. When I discovered California Design Den King Sheets Set - Soft 100% Organic Cotton Sheets with Deep Pockets, I anxiously read the reviews. I put a True Ivory set in my cart and waited for a sale. It arrived, passed my touch test, and felt crisp. I was tickled and excited and wanted to try them on the bed, but I asked my boyfriend if the slight packaging odor would bother him. He said it wasn’t that bad and suggested turning on the overhead fan and to put the flat sheet in the dryer to air dry for a little while. I still wanted to hold out not washing them just in case I decided to return them, after all. I measured the pillow envelope pockets that are 8” deep. Our mattress is 11” thick, so the product’s claim of 8-15” satisfies. The fitted sheet has a nice, thick elastic, and there are tabs that label “Head or Foot” for easier placement on the mattress. Undoubtedly, it will shrink some and fit a little better after washing. The flat sheet has plenty of length to tuck in as well as fold down the top with a blanket. It will probably shrink some in the wash, too. So far, we have slept comfortably in these cooling, crisp sheets. I can even slide a pillow between them for side and knee support and not have a hard time moving it like I do with other sheets that seem like sticky polyester that attracts lots of lint and other fibers. I still haven’t washed this set. I’m so afraid it will lose its percale crispness in favor of just becoming soft like another set of percale sheets made of combed cotton I recently ordered and had passed my touch test. Sure, California Design Den organic cotton softness is nice, but staying crisp is better. For now, I rate this product 5 stars but reserve the right to change my mind after I wash it and no longer feel percale cooling crispness.

I may not be as fussy as some but I am very happy with these sheets. I had read many reviews that said the sheets are noisy and make crinkling sounds when you move but I don't find this at all. I also read some reviews that said these sheets were rough. I find them very comfortable and soft, not as soft as other sheets I have had but this is the first time I have bought 100% cotton. I have up to now had only used microfibre sheets but I find the microfibre doesn't breath and are too hot. They are nice a cool to the touch which is great for us hot sleepers. I ordered full size (double) and they fit my bed nice and snug, they stay in place. The stitching looks good and I like the thickness of them, not to thin and not to thick. I like that they have a tag showing which is the head/foot ends so no accidently put them on wrong and having to start over, lol. I also like the thick rubber band elastic on the fitted sheet I think this helps them stay in place. If you don't like wrinkly sheets and don't like to iron these sheets might not be for you. I machine washed and dry them and they did come out a little wrinkly but this does not bother me.

Beautiful colour, cotton is super soft and the elastic round the edges of the fitted sheet is strong and rubberized, meaning it grips tightly and holds position well. It was a bit of a struggle to get it on the mattress by myself because of the tension of the elastic, but I assume that will get easier as I get used to it and the tension eases up a bit. This is a quality item, though - comes beautifully packaged and with a really nice customer service note that makes your purchase feel more personal. Items also washed well with minimal creasing. I will definitely look out for this company’s products next time I am purchasing bedding; they are excellent quality and well worth the slightly higher price.

I am obsessed with these sheets. They have the best fit I have ever seen on a fitted sheet. Super comfortable and easy wash with no shrinkage so far. A bit of a pain to get on and off the bed which makes them a perfect fit without sliding around. I highly recommend these sheets.

California Den Queen Sheet Set: Organic White. I always check new sheets for flaws in stitching and holes in fabric. I am really impressed with these sheets. Other high-quality sheet sets I have bought have had uneven stitching and looped threads, but the stitching on these sheets was even and straight, the stitches even and secure. The only flaw I found was at the top right corner where the sewer didn't backstitch enough to secure the thread before finishing the sheet. That was clearly going to come loose if I washed the sheet, so I got out the needle and thread and made a few stitches of my own. It took about three minutes and the sheet was perfect. Easy peasy, and not hard. I have a full/double mattress, but because I like the larger flat sheet, I get Queen-sized sheet sets. The fitted sheet is more than deep enough to fit my 12" mattress, with plenty of fabric left over for tucking. Because of the strong elastic that goes all the way around the fitted sheet, it holds onto the mattress firmly and keeps a slightly too-large sheet from being wrinkly. I will be certain to only wash the fitted sheet in cold water, and hang to dry, so that the elastic lasts forever– heat breaks down elastic over time. I like very crisp sheets because I'm a hot sleeper and I can't stand sleeping on overly soft sheets. When I took these sheets out of the package, I was tempted to put them onto my bed right away (after backstitching that top right corner, of course). But since I'm chemically sensitive and I could smell sizing, possibly starch, on the sheets (to make and keep them flat for presentation), I had to wait while they were first washed, then hung to dry. Then right onto the bed and– it's so nice to lie down in a bed with crisp sheets. I can't describe it. It's emotionally relaxing. The crispness makes them feel extra clean; that's the beauty of percale weave. At first I wasn't too keen on the two-coloured stitching at the top of the flat sheet (one row of grey, one row of light emerald), but I think I like it now, maybe even prefer it. When I imagine the sheet with just ordinary rows of white on white, it seems kind of boring. Now I'm waiting on a set of the same in pink (gotta love sales). There were two in stock when I placed my order, and now it seems the computer system wasn't keeping up with the sales and they sold out before my order was confirmed; they're just that popular. I'm a bit peeved that I've been waiting over two weeks for them to even ship– it may take even longer. But as long as I get them before we hit the 6-week mark, I'll be happy. And I'll be very happy to put them on my bed, because I luuurrvv these sheets.

I am very fussy about my sheets. So many different types, cotton, percale, sateen....so confusing even after you do the research. I absolutely love these sheets!! They have to feel right. Often when I buy sheets, they are too heavy or too light, too thin, too thick or just not the right feel. These sheets are nice and crisp feeling, not too heavy and not too light. It feels like freshly washed sheets every time you get in bed. I like that they have elastic all the way around the fitted sheet, not just on the corners. They stay in place instead of coming off the bed when you roll over. I also like the tag on the sheet that says: head or foot of bed. You get the fitted sheet put on right the first time. I was sceptical when I bought them because I have a difficult time getting the right sheets, but after the first night, I knew I loved them and bought another king set right away. I would 100 percent buy these again.
