Bel Canto

Did not realise in Portuguese! Not helpful. No way of altering order as I realised immediately the mistake. Bought book I did not want.

The president of a poor Latin American nation gives a birthday party for Japanese industrialist Mr Hokosawa, inviting world-renowned soprano Roxane Coss to perform...then stays at home to watch his favourite soap opera, leaving his guests in the hands of his vice president. His guests are from all parts of the world without a common language to unite them, making it a busy night for Hokosawa's translator/secretary Gen Watanabe. As Coss' sixth song finishes, terrorists storm the building to capture the president. With the object of their plan out of reach, a siege develops and as the days turn into weeks, this strange mix of forty people find an unexpected happiness together. I enjoyed discovering the people beneath the various ideologies and personalities yet at the same time, I couldn't help wondering whether this would all end badly. It certainly kept me turning the pages.

I ordered this book in Portuguese in error. Have since bought it in English. Would it be possible for you to credit the cost to my account. many thanks Mandy O'Neill

I made a mistake buying the book ... it was in Portuguese... and I tried to get a refund but couldn’t do it ... so I haven’t read its
