Interesting History, but dul movie
OK... retitled from For Greater Glory/Cristiada, aboutthe Cristero War in 1920s Mexico, where the governmentall but banned Catholicism. Yes, the Mexican governmenttried to outlaw religion!!!...I seem to remember something about his historical event, and have read up on it since buying this DVD. A veryfascinating chapter in Mexican history, where thegovernment went to war with the Catholic Church, andpersecuted their own people... Before buying this movie, look up these events, because they're more interesting thanthis movie...I was hoping for a overlooked epic, but no, although wellacted by a mostly latino cast (Reuben Blaze is very good)but spoken in English, as I am sure the Spanish versionwould have the actors dub their own Spanish, this flimisn't centred... It's all over the place, when it should beabout one person, it flips from here to there, and justfocuses on events... What I am trying to say is, it isno Lawrence of Arabia, and that's a pity becausePeter O'Toole is in in it too!Oh well... I could have bought a Transformers movie, but I wouldn't have learnt about Le Guerra Cristera. So, it was worth watching, just for that.

A potent reminder
I was intrigued to see this movie not knowing of this part of history, an enjoyable enough affair as entertainment, however i'm sure there are probably a legion of historians that could pick this apart citing important events and probably characters that were overlooked, certainly a potent reminder of the believers of totalitarianism the left really are especially the cultural marxist behind their masquerade as "for the people" when all they're really about is power who will gladly use any social issue as vehicle as long as power is the outcome.

Not the complete picture of events
Although well made, this production is akin to a party political broadcast on behalf of the Vatican Party. Troubles continued long after 1929, the finger of blame being academic, so research it for yourself if you need to know. That being said, this is well worth watching.

Infotmative
It broadened my knowledge of Mexican politics and its clamp down on the Roman Catholic religion. They were far more brutal than the Russian revolutionaries, the orthodox church seemed to have survived, although subdued. I admired this who would not submit and fought back. Only it was a shame that the USA self interest once again had them get involved, even if it did help find a solution.

Bit of interesting history well told in a good flowing action adventure.
Surprising film around a brutal period of Mexico's history which I knew nothing of. Interesting story and ably directed to allow the story to be told and still deliver a good raw action movie. Dialogue a bit stinted at times still the subject covered with a good entertaining watch.

An opportunity lost. Boring.
This has the real promise to be a really good film with a good story. However, sadly, despite the acting, it is a film that plods along and is boring, The story see Ed a. Enter script and a better film. An opportunity lost. Disappointing.

Free Cristeros - instructive
In 1926, a popular uprising shakes Mexico following laws that prohibit all religious practices throughout the country. Men and women from all walks of life, the Cristeros, will then risk their lives to defend their freedom and fight against the persecutions carried out by the government. A very dark page in Mexican history.

Interesting theme, but NO subtitle!!
The dvd came in excellent condition and well before the promised delivery date. The movie is very interesting, based on actual fact. The main actor is good but I could not follow the movie 100% because there is no english subtitle. However, it is entertaining till the end.
