Theodore 4/4 Violin Outfit – Solid Spruce Top – Violin for Beginners and Schools

I spent a long time looking around at beginner violin outfits for under £100 because I wanted to test the waters before a bigger commitment (spoilers: I love it). It was difficult sifting through all the reviews for all the different options, they all seemed a bit bleak so I settled on this one due to another review which boiled down to "it's a fixer upper". I have no regrets at all, it does its job very well, after some set up (rosin the bow, a lot! Tune it slowly and with patience and adjust the bridge correctly) it will play very nicely. It is well built and surprisingly beautiful for the price - I'm genuinely shocked it was so cheap.In short: Expect some setting up, it won't work straight out of the case (like every other violin ever) but it will do its job very nicely

This is a good product overall and ok for beginners, is good value for money however the frog is a little tight on the bow so the bow hairs won't tighten all the way up (still works well is jus a preference for myself I like them a little tighter than the bow will allow for - still produces a good sound though) however the bridge has no markings for the strings so those have to be placed by hand (I suggest taking it to someone who knows what they are doing as doing it wrong can ruin the sound of the violin). Other than that overall is a good product and a great resource for beginners.

My husband ordered this violin for our daughter after she had outgrown her 1/2 size violin (same make ordered off amazon a few years ago) annoyingly it's arrived without the bridge and we no longer have the cardboard box it arrived in so have had to now purchase a bridge in the hope we can fit it. This should have been included with the violin and I wouldn't recommend anyone buying off Amazon for fear of this happening to them.

After a five year hiatus from violin playing, I decided a cheaper violin would do the trick for regaining the muscle memory and dexterity that I had lost. I had sold my previous violin that was more expensive and the difference is obvious. For a beginner and younger students, I'd say the instrument itself is quite good and the sound quality is adequate. It's fine for the job although it has a few flaws.The string positions in relation to the fingerboard are quite skewed so that there is a large gap between the fingerboard edge and the G string compared to the E string side. I'm not an expert so I don't know if this is an error but I've owned a few violins before and this feature stuck out to me almost immediately, although I'm not sure if this is something that I can easily fix myself with new bridge positioning. I haven't found it to be an issue yet as the spacing between the strings is fine.The rosin is a small cheap one that leaves a lot of dust on the violin, especially above the right f-hole. This is probably caused by my bad bowing but I chose to purchase a Hidersine alongside to use instead for a few pounds Hidersine 3V World Famous Rosin Violin Viola. This was just a personal preference.The shoulder rest provided was quite good, the same one I used to use when I played more frequently.My biggest gripe is with the case provided. As a case for protecting and storing the violin, it's fine but I couldn't fit in the shoulder rest or bow. The side compartment is far too small for a shoulder rest and I only put the rosin in there but even the area where the scroll sits is too small to fit it without fear of pushing the pegs. The top side where the bow is kept is very snug. I struggled to pull the bow out at first and when it came to putting it back in, I had to really work it in. As I'm not planning on travelling around with it, it suits me but anyone who will be carrying their violin around should probably invest in a better case.

Excellent value for money , lovely case , beautiful looking violin, just hope my husband learns how to play it 😊
