GREAT BEGINNER LAPTOP FOR GAMING! (Not NVME Friendly though!)
Keep in mind, I normally do desktop builds for my friends. But in this specific case, a friend of mine lost her laptop after it got stomped on by a rather nasty person... :( So, I decided to surprise her with a new laptop so she could join my husband and I playing some Minecraft! The MX150 dedicated GPU is more than enough to keep some beginner level gaming running nice and warm, but it WILL get hot the second you try to play more 3D intensive games. Otherwise, the build quality is typical of Acer, with a plastic bottom encasement and an Aluminum palm rest/frame. The camera is pretty bad, but then again, GET A DEDICATED WEBCAM YOU DOLTS. IT'S THE CHEAPO CHINESIUM WEBCAM THAT IS LITERALLY 50 CENTS TO MAKE!! OH, and the hardware on this laptop picks up the Linux Kernel just fine. I've got Fedora 29 running on it right now, and everything is working smoothly without any issues. I also upgraded the RAM on this thing to 16GB and put in an 500GB SATA M.2 SSD in here. LASTLY: THIS THING IS NOT NVME SSD COMPATIBLE. GO TO ACER'S WEBSITE AND PULL UP THE FULL SPEC SHEET BEFORE YOU MAKE SOME BAD REVIEWS BECAUSE YOU DIDN'T RESEARCH THE LAPTOP BEFOREHAND...!!

Excellent price for performance
This laptop is a fine balance between performance and cost. It boots up swiftly and has snappy performance when it comes to web browsing and running typical office software. The 1080P screen makes text crisp and easy to see. I haven't used it in the bright sun but it looks good inside and I had no trouble using it on the overcast day I brought it outside. Battery life could be better but it lasts a few hours and charges fast enough that this isn't an issue for me. For what it's worth it also looks very nice, especially the textured exterior plastic. The screen doesn't feel especially robust when opening and closing so if you need something on the more rugged side this might not be a great choice. During use it feels great though. The excellent keyboard and metal lining make it feel more expensive than it is. I've ordered the hard drive mount kit from Acer and will update my review after it's arrived and I've installed a second hard disk drive. **update** Almost 2 years of ownership and battery life hasn't degraded significantly. I did add a second hard drive which involved a lot of small screws but was quite simple and easy. I've been happy with my purchase.

Decent laptop with a few flaws
CPU: the i5 8250u processor will power-throttle under load - for most users this shouldn't be a problem but if you plan to game with it (and you probably will if you bought it for dedicated graphics) it might be an issue. You can use Throttlestop as a work-around and try undervolting to prevent it overheating. GPU: The MX150 is equivalent to the GTX 1030 desktop card. It is quite capable and will run games such as GTA 5 at 1080 at lower settings. It will struggle with newer games however and you will have to lower the resolution and settings to get a decent frame rate. SSD: 256 GB is quite small by today's standards and if you have a lot of files, you can either swap out the stock SSD for a larger capacity one or use an external drive. There is a spare bay on the bottom of the laptop but it is empty and you have to purchase the connection cables separate. Build quality: When I first bought the laptop, it would suddenly shut down without any warning when running on battery power. I found that this is a common fault on this laptop - the power safety cut-off switch inside the memory hatch is not held down firmly enough. A couple of layers of electrical tape fixed it for me. Screen: Definitely a weak point on this laptop. It is full HD (1080) but viewing angles are poor and colours look washed out. Overall: For the price, it is a decent laptop, despite these shortcomings. It will handle everyday tasks with ease and can also handle some light gaming.

Gets the job done, worth $600.
So far it's a good laptop. Why 3 stars? The display is pretty bad. Use an external monitor if you can. The color is washed out and the display just doesn't get bright enough. I knew this when I bought the laptop but it really is bothersome even in normal use, let alone if you want to play any games. Use a mouse - the trackpad is usable but not enjoyable. I accidentally pull tabs into their own windows when trying to click them, etc. For gaming: it works! Does the job for $600. Huge laptop that shipped in a day. I'm happy with my purchase as a casual gamer. For browsing, I'd rather use my old 13-inch macbook pro.
