-) Like most men
My husband purchased this product on my account, so the review is his :-)Like most men, I had tired of purchasing the same old cartridge type blades and having another dull shave....I was doing some searching and came across DE shaving and so purchased this product. The package arrived in an Amazon box and inside was the Shaveology box which contained the razor, set of 5 DE blades, polishing cloth (which is great) and a kind of instruction thing.I was very weary at first and almost cancelled the order as I wasn't certain that the black plastic handle was going to be any good and would keep slipping out of my hand. Needless to say, I shouldn't have worried as the handle is just fine, even when it is wet and you have gel or foam on your hand it just stays there and does the job.Changing blades is simple as all you do is unscrew the handle, remove the head and place the blade on the retainers. It is so simple.I still had some shaving gel left over so I have only used this shaver with it and not the lather up cream stuff (that is next). But to be honest, even using this with gel it gives an amazingly close shave, much closer than any Hydro 5 or proglide would give. And to top it off it looks the part too.I think I have just found my Christmas presents for the male part of my family.....Definitely recommend this product....

Excellent well made razor will not disappoint you.
This is my first DE safety razor. I had looked at lots of alternatives costing considerably more, but opted for the Shaveology Phantom. The black handle gives it a classic look. The addition of the blades, wipe cloth and leather head cover are welcome and other manufacturers could learn from Shaveology particularly the head cover which protects the razors head and your fingers when stored in a travel bag. The razor is nicely weighted and is in fact heavier than I expected. I was worried the smooth black handle might be difficult to hold, but it sits comfortably in the hand, my only criticism would be that I feel the handle could be ½" longer.I have bought a good badger hair shaving brush and Proraso soap, its essential to thoroughly soften the hairs before shaving. The razor is easy to use and I did not suffer a single cut or nick on first use, it glided through the hairs with ease. I suggest 2 passes when shaving with this type of razor and as the brush is already loaded with soap a quick re-application for a second pass takes only a couple of minutes.I would absolutely recommend this razor.

Nicely weighted razor
Nicely weighted razor. Compared to disposables, it's a heavyweight but controllable: with the right blades (not those supplies with) it's just a matter of gliding it across the stubble without the need to push. At least on my face, that is.

Proper job
This is a great shave, i have just shaved my beard off a couple of days ago and i usually use a shavette and thought i would give a safety razor a go. And i must say this is a great shave the only minor issue in have is the length of the handle is a little short as i have a couple of health conditions and it causes discomfort when using this but it is not a design flaw it's only due to my health issues. It's weighty comfortable and a breeze to use WHY would you ever pay Gillette or Wilkinson sword for blades when you have quality like this.

A starter safety razor
Average at best, I previously used an adjustable Merkur and that was far superior but unfortunately I left it in a hotel. This is too short, it's only a bit longer than a travel razor, weight wise it's OK but the weight is in the head rather than the head and handle. By far the worst thing about it is it doesn't shave close enough. Do yourself a favour and stump up the extra cash for a Merkur.

This was an expensively bad decision (I purchased the kit with razor
Bought this because I wanted a change from my electric shaver. This was an expensively bad decision (I purchased the kit with razor, foam and after-shave). Product appears to be well manufactured and the publicity, website and glossy photos are very impressive. I watched the video and followed the instructions carefully, but both mornings ended up with a bloody face. The second attempt took a chunk out of the skin on my chin - this was not a 'nick' - it took two hours to staunch the bleeding. Needless to say, I will not be using this again.

Beats a standard cartridge razor in my book.
I was looking for something to replace my standard razor as I was tired of spending a small fortune on replacement blades which didn't seem to last that long.I came across this and thought I would try it.This is just so easy to use. Following the instructions, it glides effortlessly down your skin removing your hair with ease. Its design makes it so easy to disassemble and clean. The fact you get replacement blades with it too which can last months is a bonus in itself.I have recommended this to other people to replace their standard razor.

Broke after 5 months
"Just had my first shave with this razor. Very impressed! The product packaging seemed to have had a lot of thought, with everything to a very high standard, and the shave itself was the cleanest I've ever had."That was my original review, 5 months later and the handle has just broken, quite disappointed. The handle won't screw into the head anymore so I can't use it at all.

"This is THE definitive Safety Razor set", an in depth review.
The first thing I have to say about this product is wow. I purchase the Safety Razor set for about $30, which is 70% lower than what is listed at the original price. The set consists of a chrome plated razor, a leather "pouch" of sorts, the razors, and a cloth.Let's start with the razor: It is chrome plated, and it's noticeable when you first look at the finish. It's not bad, but there is a certain lustre that stainless steel has. In my opinion, one is not superior to the other, it's just different. The razor handle unscrews which separates the head into two pieces which need to be sandwiched around the blade. This is not a butterfly opening razor, so if you're looking for that in this razor, it's not it. One must be careful replacing the razor head on the handle as the risk of cutting oneself is present; also, I have heard tightening the head too much will cause the razor to crack or shatter. The handle seems to be of plastic, but there are no seam lines like in cheap moulded plastic, so I'm happy with that. Also, there are etchings on the razor which add a nice touch of style. The leather pouch is more of a blade guard than anything else. It slips over the head of the razor and keeps it clean, dry, and eliminates risk of cutting oneself when handling the razor. I tend not to use it as slipping the razor into it requires you to either hold the blade guard open with your fingers or working the razor in, and I tend to be a bit nervous around extremely sharp metal, regardless of precautions. It's a very nice and potentially useful thing to have though, especially if you're travelling with your razor as it can keep it from cutting other things in your bag.The razors I recieved were Baili "Super" stainless steel blades, numbering 5 which came in a custom Shaveology bag. The suggestion made to me was to use each side of the razor once (meaning one blade gets 2 uses) then discard it, but I find they can withstand multiple uses before wearing out. Unless you have thick facial hair, these should last 2-3 weeks or more. The cloth was of the sort to which dust readily clings, meaning that you can use it not only for polishing and drying the safety razor, but for cleaning your glasses, or in fact any glass which must remain dust free. It is black with the Shaveology logo and phrase on one side, the other being plain. I have used it for many other things besides razor care. The whole set came in very nice packaging, including promotional pamphlets with discount vouchers and a handy shaving guide for those not used to shaving with this type of razor. As for the shave, it was immediately intuitive. You can instantly tell if you have the angle right or not, and the shave was close and easy. I've used disposable razors, straight razors, and as of now safety razors and I can say I've never had a shave so effortless, clean (as far as residue and hairs sticking to the face) and confident then with this razor. I can make several passes on the same spots and not worry at all about nicking myself like with disposables, and the shave is much faster then with straight razors. The only downside, one which accompanys not just this product, but all safety razors, is edging facial hair is a delicate and imprecise task, for which I prefer a straight razor. For shaving large swaths of skin this type has no rival, and for this price this product has the greatest value unless you are looking for an exact style or product. Even without the usual accouterments such as a stand, a badger hair brush, or shaving cream (all of which enhance the shaving experience) this is still definitively the complete shaving set for any man with facial hair. I highly recommend it.

Very sturdy - Excellent Razor
I've only used this razor twice so far, as I only received it a few days ago. First, I've been shaving with a safety razor for over a year now, but I've been using a cheapo brand I found at Target. I've gone through two of those razors already, so I decided to invest in a better quality razor. This razor fits the bill so far. It appears to be very sturdy and well built, and it has excellent balance and nice weight to it. It's very easy to install the blades, and it doesn't get gunked up with shave cream and hair stubble (it rinses off very easily). I'll have to post another review on it's durability after I've used it for a while, but for the 2 times I've used it, I don't think there will be much issue with that.Anyone questioning whether or not to use a safety razor should try this to start. I have extremely sensitive skin, dry, and mild eczema, and I wouldn't shave any other way. With a disposable razor, I could never get a real close shave, and I was left with terrible razor burn. With the safety razor, it shaves so close that I can get away with shaving every other day, and no razor burn! Actually, with this razor I'd venture to say that it's the closest and most comfortable shave I've ever had. The key is also to use quality shave products; I use a pre-shave oil, shaving cream applied with a badger brush, and a quality after-shave balm, and I shave in the shower. Use quality products, learn the techniques, and slow down a bit, and you'll love shaving with a safety razor. And I'd recommend this one.I also have to review the delivery of the razor. I don't know if it was Amazon, or the Shaveology company, but the delivery was impeccable! I ordered the razor and was told the expected delivery date was 12/23/15 (just about 1 week from my order date). On 12/21/15, I received an email notice saying that the order had shipped. Then the very next day, I had an email informing me that my order would be delayed for unspecified reasons, and no expected delivery date. To my surprise, a UPS delivery truck showed up at my house at 9:20pm and delivered my razor - a day early! Despite the late evening delivery, I was thrilled. Great job Either Shaveology or Amazon, or both!
