Columbia Men's Half Moon Short

I bought these because I am downsizing, and my other shorts are all getting too big, so I ordered these. I got them quickly, as promised. I can't review quality yet, but I thought I would leave a review to maybe help others on the sizing issue. They do look like decent quality though. The shorts I ordered were XL, not a waist number, so it is a bit of a guess to start. I can now more than comfortably wear a 44 waist, but these shorts at XL are much smaller than that. I would say their XL is closer to a waist size 40. I can put them on, but it would take every bit of slack for me to button them up. I am going to keep them, as I am losing weight steadily, and will be there in a month or so, but if you are a 38-40, count on ordering the XL if you want to wear them comfortably.

My husband loves these shorts. These were recommended by a friend and ever since he bought them, it's all he wears now in the summer. These shorts are a good length (he hates shorts at or below his knee) and hit about 2" above his knee (he's 5'11"). Some good things - they have a velcro waist which allows for much tightening and losening as needed. Easy access pockets, huge openings for full access, and each pocket goes the full length of the short so they are much larger pockets then they appear. Also, pockets are built well such that items do not fall out when sitting. Each pocket has its own spot of velcro to remain closed. My husband didn't care much for the velcro on his wallet pocket and it was very easy to remove just the velcro on this one pocket. These have faded some with washing (definitely not the bright vibrant blue) but again, they've been worn constantly this summer and aren't too faded for something that was probably washed and dried 30 times this summer. Just remember to close the velcro on the waist before washing or everything in your washer will be stuck to this large piece of velcro.

I am short and chubby and I have a hard time finding shorts that cut off at or slightly above the knee. I have had larger sized shorts in the past from Columbia and I hoped these would be similar. Although I read a review from someone who said that the sizes seemed off, I knew from experience what size to order and it was right on for me. The shorts have a cloth strap which loops through a "D" shaped ring and reattaches with velcro. My only two issues with the shorts were (1) that the velcro pieces the hold the front together above the zipper were small and did not lend themselves to much adjustment and (2) when the strap was pulled through the D ring and reattached there was not much room left for a belt to fit through the loop at that point. However, those were minor points for me. The right rear pocket where I keep my wallet was VERY deep and closed with velcro. It was so deep that occasionally I had to feel around to make sure my wallet was still in my pants. I bought two pair and I really like them a lot.

Like the moon shifting through its phases I found myself trudging along predictably in life. One day was stirred with the next which was stirred with the subsequent day and eventually evenings became a time where I was waiting for the next day to start. I was in a sad state - until I found these shorts. With their clear ruggedness I find it hard to sit at home watching gif's of cats all afternoon. These shorts inspire me to get out and explore whatever there is to explore. Whether it is the library or a hiking trail I find that these are my "get up and get out" shorts.

Bought these for my dad for Xmas... he was very specific about a certain brand and inseam size. Online I could see the inseam size but it wasn't printed anywhere else so my Dad was skeptical that I got the right one. But it may have been inside the actual shorts - just not on the bag it came sealed in. He was nervous about opening them in case it wasn't right. But other than that he loved the color and the price was competitive.

These shorts are good quality but the waist fit was smaller than expected. I ordered a medium and they fit more like a small. I had to return the shorts for a large, which is usually not what my son wears in anything. Disappointed with the fit.

These shorts are lightweight with practical pockets. I have two other pairs from 2 years ago when I was 40 lbs heavier that are still in good condition. The price seems 10-15% too high which is why only four stars.

The Velcro closure system isn't so great. There isn't a button, it uses Velcro instead. And the belt system is also Velcro and the range for the belt is limited because the connecting piece on the shorts isn't very long. The result is that while the Large is a little too tight for me, the XL is too big and can't be cinched tighter.
