Cardinal Season 1 [DVD] [2017]

Takes a while to get know the characters but the story line soon opens to reveal all.

Detective Cardinal is secretly under investigation for alleged corruption, his new partner Lise Delorme instructed to check him out and report back. Cardinal's current top priority is the case sending shockwaves through the small Canadian community. All along he had insisted a missing teen had been abducted, he dropped from investigations for being obsessive. He has been proved right: her body found; others reported missing. Now he is back in charge. How many more bodies before the culprit(s) caught...?Grippingly well done, with high marks in all departments. Good scripts, other storylines skilfully interwoven (including one most moving). Fine performances, especially from the leads, Billy Campbell and Karine Vanasse. A couple of really creepy villains (we knowing who they are very early on). A word of praise for Robert Naylor as latest abductee Keith - throughout the series he destined to suffer, filmed in conditions far from comfortable. Many viewers will be very concerned for him.Six episodes. Modest bonuses. One tells of difficulties filming on location in extreme cold, the aim authenticity. They certainly achieved that.I have not read the books, so do not know how this compares. It comes as no surprise, though, that further seasons have been commissioned.

I thought I might kick in here if only because I've read and loved all of Blount's novels featuring Cardinal and De Lorme (a series that, sadly, appears to have ended).This is one of the finest bingeing delicacies I have ever seen and I've seen most of the worthwhile ones from the UK and Scandinavia. Those from my country - the good ol'US of A - mostly reek by comparison!The acting is superb, the setting is pristine and the tale - even if I did know a bit about what was coming from the novel - was absolutely engrossing.Will there be a Cardinal 2? There certainly is plenty of outstanding material for the producers to work with.If you like The Bridge (Malmo/Copenhagen version) Season I - and that is one of the finest if not the finest ever - you will love Cardinal.And you don't need subtitles to understand "Canadian English"!

I bought this to fill time, not expecting anything great from a US/Can TV series.It is surprisingly good, not the usual dumb fodder associated with US/Can TV series.There remains some cliché scenes and the odd "Americanism cop" but it is for the most part very much in vouge with the Scandinavian style of the Bridge and the killing.The main acting is good some of the supporting cast drift easily in to the old style associated with US TV but I enjoyed it and would happily watch a Series 2.

CARDINAL IS A EXCELLENT DETECTIVE SERIES SET IN ONTARIO CANADA. THE LEAD MALE DETECTIVE IS BILLY CAMPBELL WHO WAS IN THE AMERICAN KILLING. HE DOES A GOOD JOB OF DISPLAYING HIS EMPATHY FOR THE VICTIM AND THEIR FAMILIES. HE HAS A DOWN TO EARTH APPROACH TO SOLVING THE CRIME. HIS PARTNER IS KARINE VANASSE WHO COMES ACROSS AS INTELLIGENT AND CONFIDENT. THEY WORK WELL TOGETHER IN SOLVING THE MURDER OF A YOUNG GIRL IN ALGONQUIN BAY. IF YOU LIKE A REAL DETECTIVE SERIES THIS IS A GOOD ONE. THE SCRIPT IS CRISP, INTERESTING, AND THE ACTING IS GOOD. IT'S MUCH BETTER THEN MIDSOMER MURDERS WITH NEIL DUDGEON ,THAT SHOW HAS REALLY LOST IT'S WAY WITHOUT JOHN NETTLES. IT'S SO MUCH BETTER THEN MOST OF THE BRITISH TV DETECTIVE SERIES PRODUCED TODAY.

This is an excellent production all round with regard to story, cast and direction. What sets this apart from other 'dark crime dramas' is the decision to shoot this in and around a Canadian town in peak winter. The outside shots are stunningly beautiful, the natural light and scenery, bringing a stark contrast to its very dark subject matter. Top marks!

I'm not sure what I expected from this, but my expectations were soon dampened by my realization, that I did not want to be seeing all of the unpleasantness that I was in this show. The landscape gave promise, as did Billy Campbell, but I guess I just don't enjoy watching such awful things happening to innocent victims any more and so after just two shows - I stopped watching it.

Good story line. Well acted. the dénouement was very good. Maybe a bit slow to start, but then you learn why. More please.

Amazing series. Won't disappoint.

DVD delivered today, some two weeks before it was expected, tops! Played one of the two discs already, quality excellent. First-class by seller in all respects. Compliments!

Do not purchase this dvd it dose not play in any Canadian dv machines. What a waste of money.They should a least tell you this before you purchase it.Down load from iTunes plays great... good season.

You would think that a seller would tell customers what region this DVD uses for viewing.....does not work in my Canadian DVD player. NOT happy.
