Great for any fan of construction shows
My four year old son is a big huge mega giant fan of construction shows, and this little compilation is right in his wheelhouse. A nice selection of episodes on bridges, tunnels, ships, etc., something that a parent can watch with their kid that won't drive you to the brink of insanity and you may actually learn something along the way. Also would recommend the MegaBuilders DVDs, which are similar in their subjects and their approach, and it's always good to have some DVDs handy for roadtrips/internet outages/etc. where your kid wants to watch something and a streaming service isn't always available.

Hong Kong's Chek Lap Kok Airport is an architectural and engineering marvel
Hong Kong is the largest international airport in terms of cargo shipments alone. With towering skyscrapers surrounding their tiny one-runway airport, Hong Kong had outgrown its downtown location. It was becoming too dangerous for commercial jets to descend down around nearby mountains and high-rise condos. A new airport was constructed 16-miles out at sea. To accomplish this, 22-miles of new superhighways and tunnels, an ultra high-speed rail line, and the world's longest suspension bridge was built. First, a new island was created by leveling and combining two smaller, mountainous islands. Six hundred million tons of earth - rock and soil - was used as fill to connect both islands. A one-mile long tunnel was constructed 50 feet below the sea floor, wide enough to carry six lanes of traffic. And the one and a half-mile long Tsing Ma Bridge was built joining mainland Hong Kong to North Lantau Island. The bridge and tunnel provided two crucial links to the airport. The airport's mile-long hollow glass passenger terminal withstood 100 mph winds from Typhoon Sam in less than a year after to was opened. And, again, in 2010 when a category 10 typhoon passed with up to 200 mph winds. Glass panels were blown out which relieved pressure but saved the building with minimal damage. The Chek Lap Kok Airport and supporting infrastructure with a $20 billion price tag was a remarkable engineering feat.

You Are There!
I had connections to the Panama Canal as well as the Boston Tunnel because my dad was a civil engineer who worked on enlarging the Canal during WWII as well as tunnels for Boston. I found the other episodes thrilling, gritty, and real.Barbara C.

Engineering Videos
I teach engineering and have this set of DVD's on hand for substitutes, or just in case I need something to fill a class period from time to time. Network down, shortened class periods, day before a vacation, last day of a semester or year and you don't have time to start anything new... Great collection.

purchased this dvd for my husband for xmas. He has already watched the whole dvd and thoroughly enjoyed it and will watch it over and over as he says you pick up things you didnt notice the first and second time. I myself watched a few of the episodes and they were fascinating.

You get to see unfinished projects
Show these to my Engineering students in high school. They hate them but I think they are ok. Most of the Projects they are documenting are not finished by the end of the episode.
