Outstanding video about Raphael
I was totally mesmerized by this beautiful video featuring works shown at a recent exhibition of works by Raphael including drawings, tapestries, and, above all, paintings. Raphael's life was discussed, and scenes from Rome, Urbino, Florence, Perugia, etc. were shown. It is a wonderful video which I intend to watch many times. The art historians, historians, et. al. added greatly to the film. Lovely music was played unobtrusively in the background. I can recommend this video without reservation.Walter Graham

An exciting gallery tour
Most importantly, one gets to see many of Monet's paintings, which are shown chronologically. In several instances a photograph of landscape or a cityscape, taken from the the same spot where Monet painted it, is cleverly blended into Monet's painting. The audio portion is a reading of his letters and diary entries, translated into English from which one gleans details of his biography. Happily, this avoids the lapse into Curator-speak that one encounters in many art galleries. This is an interesting way of summarizing his biography, but it leaves gaps for the viewer/listener to fill in. For the non-native anglophone, it's slow-paced enough to make it easier to assimilate. The credits at the end of the presentation acknowledge the many collections from around the world where the paintings are now exhibited, but I would have liked to have the information for each individual painting as it is shown.

Beautiful images.
This DVD goes into the life and personal story of Monet as well as showing many images not usually seen. Beautiful and very interesting if you are a Monet fan.

How concentration upon the nature of the natural world created the character of Monets’s art.
Given the outstanding, unique characteristics of Monet’s art at all periods of his long career his own words detailing his mood and circumstances which contributed to the nature of his work gives deeper insight into how choices were made which determined the changes and qualities of his work over a lifetime. The programme was most informative and enjoyable.

Phenomenal, will rewatch
I’m a big fan of the exhibition on screen series and when I noticed that this episode was not available for free I gave no second thought to spending the money to get the DVD because the series is that good. This episode did not disappoint, it was rich with insight about the artist’s inner world and the paintings were portrayed in fantastic detail. This is definitely one of the best documentaries in the entire series

Fascinating Story of a Visionary
Purchased this video after reading The Private Lives of the Impressionists. I don't know if another group of artisans suffered more than the impressionists, but certainly Claude Monet and his family paid a great price and struggled unimaginable hardships. I enjoyed the video tremendously as it brought much of what I had read to life.

Father of Impressionism
Only story I have ever seen on Claude Monet, documentary or otherwise. Learned things I never knew even though I have studied his work for years. Excellent movie.

Highly recommended, a beautful insight into Monet his work and life
This was a very moving story of Monet's life, it is beautifully shot on the locations where he worked and lived, wonderful and carefully chosen excepts from letters further illustrate his life, his home and garden at Giverny. it also has lovely family photos and of course many of his paintings, and how he felt when he painted them via his letters. Highly recommended !

Prachtige goed gedocumenteerde film over Raphael

Impressionist Art Lovers need to see this movie.
Narration was from his personal correspondance. Beautifully filmed and showed many of Monet's paintings that get forgotten when people fixare on his waterlilies. Enjoyed it completely.
