Genesis: A Commentary for Children (Herein Is Love)

Bible time has never been so good!
We have really been enjoying this commentary on Genesis! Our kids are between the ages of 6-10 and they all seem to really be engaged when we read to them. We are reading through the bible as a family this year and this had helped my children to really gain a better understanding of what we are reading in the bible. Not to mention that she does a good job dealing with hard passages like Lot and his daughters. Best of all my husband and I are really enjoying the book as well and we feel like we have gained a fresh love and appreciation for the book of Genesis! I really think that these would be helpful for a new believer as well.

Excellent Discipleship Tool
I am working through Genesis with my 13 year old daughter. This commentary is written in a way that is simple and easy to understand. I love how the author makes connections to Christ. It sets me up well as a dad to communicate the gospel to my daughter as we're studying the OT. It is probably best suited for the age range of 8 to 10 but it is working with well my 13 year old. Well done. I recommend it.

Insightful and helpful commentary for the whole family!
Not your typical. Wonderful commentary that helped my sixth and seventh grader in our Biblical History class this year. Mrs. Ganz clearly writes with a heart for the LORD and a desire for children to come to know Him as the Gracious, Merciful, and Benevolent God that He really is. Highly recommend this entire "Herein is Love" book series. :-)

Great to use but supplement the content
I got this as part of Charlotte Mason curriculum. We started with Genesis. It should be noted that the commentary includes a lot of the personal beliefs of the author, which for us in terms of Creation I needed to modify. She overstates a few points with little to back them up with. We used them as an opportunity to discuss different ideas (young earth vs old earth, evolution vs intelligent design) and put them in a context. Also we found it helpful to generate a list of "unknowns" for further biblical study. Like did predator -prey relationships exist at initial creation (see later scripture on Lions with lambs describing how Jesus brings back perfection).Another critique is that some things she goes on and on to repeat with too many examples. Maybe this would be different based on age of children but I've gotten into the habit of prereading and adlibbing versus reading word for word.We do this as a family with mixed aged children. They are stimulated to ask good questions. I add questions to the reading and that makes it helpful. So bottom line is, this is a useful book but it's the author's reflections that she taught her children, not really a true biblical commentary. I would recommend that parents supplement this with a concordance or get used to google search if you are not a biblical Scholar and don't feel that you need to teach the doctrines presented.I would recommend with these caveats.

Highly recommended
This book is really great. I am reading it to my girls (ages 12 and 14). It's easy to understand and has great truth in it. It's scriptural. I plan on buying the other books in the series too. I love having it on my kindle.

Wonderful!
I have not read this whole book to my children as of yet, but the chapters I have read have been great. I am not certain how much they, (ages 5&7), have been able to grasp, but I am sure my oldest gets more out of it than my youngest. And I possibly get the most of all from this book.

An Excellent Resource for Christian Families
I bought this book after discovering it at a friend's house. I am very pleased with it. I have six children, ranging in age from 12 years to 18 months. Herein Is Love attracted the attention of the five oldest children, and held it. I find that books which appeal to so many ages at once are rare. The book is in the Reformed tradition.
