Simplicity Reigns Supreme (8.1")
I'm a technical street skater who does mostly flatland and grind ledge obstacles. For how I skate, this is my favorite deck. This deck is 8.1 x 31.8 inches and has shallow concave. I like shallow concave because my feet can step off easier when I'm bailing from a trick. The nose and tail angles are also mellow. The graphics are nice and simple and reveal the red-stained bottom ply when they scrape off from slides. The rails of the board are straight and level, making for predictable rail flip tricks. The nose is longer than the tail. This is a Dwindle Distribution product, and it is a Resin7 construction with a single deck press. The resin construction makes the deck highly responsive and gives lots of pop to tricks. Because it reduces flex in the board, the resin construction is also more forgiving of foot placement for tricks; you're not relying on sprung pressure to flick the board, you're just putting normal foot pressure on it with no need for pre-load. (Sprung pressure is what I call it when you place your feet to flex the board a certain way to have it spring a certain way when released - you do this whether you know it or not: you've learned it from trial-and-error when learning the trick from observing and repeating just the right pressure on the certain precise points where you place your feet to pull off the trick). The resin construction makes for a stiff, responsive feel to the deck, less guesswork as to what the board will do when you release your foot when airborne, and more consistency from trick to trick. The resin construction also increases the longevity of the deck. I've been skating it 3-5 times a week for 8 weeks now and the wear on the nose and tail is more like that of a non-resin deck after only 1 week. It really does last that much longer. In the past, Dwindle decks seemed to have had a problem with chipping, but that problem seems to have been solved. In addition to slides on the bottom of the deck, I do a lot of casper, rail, and dark side tricks where the top, ends, and side edges of the deck are hitting or scraping against the ground or an obstacle, and so far I have no chips or delamination. Dwindle offers a 30-day guarantee against delamination on this and other Resin7 decks. There are pressure cracks in the board around the truck mounting holes, but the cracks have no observable detrimental effect on performance. Two months have passed since I assembled and started skating it, and the board is well-broken in and not getting soggy at all. This is my favorite deck because it is strong, stable, long-lived, forgiving, and well-made. The Rasta Panda deck is a perennial offering from Enjoi, and from my experiences I think I will continue to get this deck.
