I'm on the 'McGuire Programme' myself so I know the old book, Beyond Stammering. I've used it as a handbook for years and it's finally fallen apart. Am now working my way through this one, which seems clearer and better. Also gives an insight into the methods of what's got to be the most challenging but effective programme around for controlling stammering, stuttering, whatever you want to call it. The programme's run by stammerers themselves, not speech therapists, & it's not for the faint-hearted. OK, I'm biased, but it's helped me no end. Walk the walk and you just might be able to talk the talk (sorry, that was dreadful).

Firstly, as a fellow stammerer I find it absolutely disgcraceful that Dave McGuire takes advantage of us by charging so much for his course!!!This book is more about the author showing off about his sporting achievements than anything else. If you want to learn about costal breathing get all the info online or check out Starfish for a cheaper course. Book returned!

Having a stutter from as long as I can remember, I have tried many therapies. None of them worked. I was never able to say my name and address and always tried to avoid phone, tills and other situations requiring speaking.In May 2015, at 40, I attended my first McGuire Programme course in the UK. I have now completed 3 of them. It is the first time in my life I have hope about my speech. Less than 24 hours after my first course I was able to say my name and address in front of an audience. Less than 2 days after, I was speaking publicly in a busy city centre in front of many people.This book is the course material. It is my bible really. If you intend to read the book without attending the course, you may reach your goal but it will most likely not be enough. What makes this programme work is also the support network of experienced people like us all around the world we can call whenever we want or need.The approach is physical and psychological with many references to sport psychology. A new way of breathing is taught as long as techniques to counteract the fear we have towards sounds and situations. It is a must have for any stutterer like me.

The book and program are excellent and I would recommend to any person who stutters to locate and attend a program. Our son surely benefitted from it.

Very good book for people who stutter, the better program that is available today, there is no cure but with hard work we can become elocuent

This is an excellent book. The McGuire approach is an interesting alternative to more standard approaches. If you are really prepared to go the extra mile then you can master the sport of speaking.

Filled with the great concepts.

It will be perfect if the delivery charges can be lowered.
