HomeDNA Ancestry Test

I ordered this knowing it wasn't going to unlock all the mysteries of my existence. It didn't. What it did was provide a basic overview of the geographic regions where I acquired certain DNA. It did confirm (for the most part) what I'd always been told by relatives in terms of where our ancestors came from...and that's pretty much what I wanted. So, overall, I'm satisfied with that even though it's not very detailed.It's very easy to use. Open the kit, swab the inside of your mouth with the included cotton swabs, drop the swabs in the envelope, drop the envelope in the mailer, put in mailbox. Pretty simple. Takes about 5 mins. Postage is prepaid.A few minor complaints: 1) it took much longer to get results than what they claimed. I was told to expect the results on or about Feb 1. It was two weeks after that my results were ready. 2) I never got an email or other notification my results were ready. I found out by chance just by looking on the website. I got all the other notification emails and promotional emails trying to sell me more services so not sure why I didn't receive any notification regarding the results.I got these kits on sale just before Christmas so the cost wasn't too bad. Probably not worth paying the full price for this basic kit.

Decently priced but the results took twice as long as they said it would after we received the confirmation email that they received the sample.

Only gives you the top three which for my wife was 51%. What is the other 49%

My dad and mom loved getting the results. My wife has.not received hers yet and it's been since January.

Found it very interesting. Wish it showed more of a timeline and when they came to America.

I ordered this as a Christmas gift for my husband and was very excited to give it to him... BUT was very disappointed that it wasn't what either of us had expected.You only get to find out the TOP 3 GENE POOLS that the individual comes from and not specifics like Italy, France, etc.This was very deceiving and I feel like they're taking advantage of buyers by not.Also, your results are digital only.. why would i not want to print out or have a copy of my results results...

Can't get DNA barcode from this product. Cannot integrate it into a family tree web site.

I found the results of HomeDNA to be worthless. I used familysearch.org to trace my ancestors back to the Middle Ages. Most of my ancestors were from Germany and German speaking Switzerland, with smaller numbers from Scotland and England. HomeDNA did not report anything from any of these areas. I expected there to be significant differences, but the results are just implausible. The third largest component was Orkney Islands, a group of small islands off Scotland with very few people. I know there were mass migrations to Germany form the East, but from Orkney Islands ?My wife also sent in a sample and had a similarly ridiculous result . For her Orkney Islands were the second biggest contributor. As a test, she also sent a sample to 23andMeDNA and got completely different results, which were much more plausible - not identical, but similar to the results of her genealogy research.
