2CD Set of epic doom metal Candlemass was formed by bassist and songwriter Leif Edling in Stockholm, Sweden in 1984. Well known for their epic doom metal, they have hugely influenced a generation of the genre's subsequent greats, including Paradise Lost, My Dying Bride and many more - Candlemass themselves taking a large influence from Black Sabbath with their slow thick heavy metal guitar riffs bathed in dark and epic atmospheres. The band has become truly legendary in the metal world having enjoyed a career approaching three decades, and with a lengthy discography containing 2 albums widely hailed as among the most essential for any metalhead; notably the 1986 debut 'Epicus Doomicus Metallicus', and then 1987's 'Nightfall' which featured the talents of enigmatic vocalist Messiah Marcolin. This 2-disc set contains tracks from the band's extensive discography showing the beginnings and subsequent evolution of a band destined for metal stardom. Review: no introduction necessary - For those unfamiliar with candlemass, this is a great place to start, spanning most of the bands albums and eras (barring recent albums with now ex-vocalist Rob Lowe). Its serves as a great taster for anyone looking to purchase the bands albums, weather it be the old Epic Doom era, or the later psychedelic toned albums. For those who know Candlemass already, this is a great collection, enabling you to listen to the best cuts from the bands past with out changing disks!
