Shadow Transducer Bug Pickup for Double Bass with Output Jack Socket

I made a stick double bass last year and thought I could use pick-ups for guitars, as it is only an octave higher. But they didn't pick up the bass tones, so I bought this. This bass pick up was the cheapest I could find on amazon. I clipped the pick-up to the bridge and I also clipped the pick-up lead to the bridge, which improved the volume (maybe the pick-up could be clipped on better I'm not sure yet). I put it through a 5 band equaliser on a Fostex desk and got a satisfactory tone. I suspect that if I had spent £50 more I would have gotten a bit more bottom end for my buck. Even so, there's nothing wrong with the tone spectrum it reproduces. It's good enough for recording and gigging. Put through a dedicated equaliser I suspect you could get the windows to vibrate.

Surprising sound from such a small thing at such a low cost. Works well, but you will need a pre amp or amplifier with low impedance as the volume is VERY quiet. Only complaint is that it is very boomy and subject to a lot of feedback, so I usually have to cut 60HZ using the EQ on my amp. Definitely worth a look at though at this price!

This pickup is really good. I joined a jazz orchestra not so long ago and my double bass needed amplifying. The instructions were hard to understand but it is easy to work out. The sound quality is amazing and it is well worth the money.

I've tried a couple of little button transducers for my gypsy guitars, but found them to be a bit tinny in quality. This is superb and just the job. I've got two gypsy guitars fitted out with them, and I also stuck one under the bridge of my EKO fretless bass - perfect for that too. For 25 quid, it's great value for a guitar pick up.

I have struggled to replace an excellent shadow transducer which I had, had since the 80s. This is successful but a bit boomy for my liking. It does however fulfil one of my basic requirement which is that it is totally removable. I probably buy another if it broke.
