DO NOT BUY
Stained body work!! , was very shocked at this , it's like yellow tumeric? .. very very small and does not stay in tune no matter how you try , fret work is really sharp too and sore on fingers so given one star ...very disappointing, please DO NOT BUY even as an ornament .. way too dear for second hand item , which was not made clear that it was previously used , and no doubt sold on due t it being rubbish, poor show ..,perhaps miss-led i thought it was a new item i was buying .....anyway .i've returned it already , quick service and collected with no trouble ..but received an e.mail today saying i have to down load adobe!! , before i can get credit? cash back!!! payed £100 just over with vat so this confusing adobe thing which my computer is saying would be a threat to my laptop security if i were to download it , so hence does this mean no refund then? it appears it could spell trouble ,but will check my bank tomorrow, if no money has been refunded i shall have to take it up further with Amazon if this is the case ..was excited to get this item as i looked so good , i must say it is a nice piece of wood .. and some features are very sweet .. but not good enough for the amount or really just not good enough , rip off really , and confusing re-fund agro

Pleasant, but not as good as the Appalachian style
I was wavering between three and four stars because when this arrived I was initially shocked, but it has grown on me considerably.I felt it was quite cheap-looking - a similar sort of standard to a £20 ukulele and with one end of the cord just tied round the tuning pegs - but despite the tiny size, the volume is really quite good and I also like the tone.If you particularly want to try this style of dulcimer, it should be fine for a beginner and is easy to tune and to play, although I doubt it would suit a professional player and suggest waiting for a discounted price if you can. If you just want a dulcimer, I would advise going for the Appalachian (hourglass) style instead: it's a bit more awkward to hold but has much more range and for me presents far greater value for money. I also have the Blue Moon Appalachian style and was quite happy to pay around £95 for that, whereas if I hadn't got this dulcimer stick at a good discount I think it would have been returned.I've been generous with my fourth star because of the tone, the volume, and the smooth tuning pegs: it does what it needs to and it's very small and cute - but you're never going to mistake it for an expensive instrument. If you're not bothered about which style of dulcimer to play, seriously, go Appalachian.
