Sacred Hymns of G. I. Gurdjieff

In addition to being a major 20th Century philosopher, mystic and spiritual teacher, G. I. Gurdjieff also penned music in collaboration with the Russian composer Thomas de Hartman. This album features the music of Gurdjieff as interpreted by Keith Jarrett.Even in his regular releases there is a definite meditative element to Keith Jarrett's music. This release is no different and highlights those talents, delivering a very soothing and contemplative meditation based on Gurdjieff's music.Jarrett has had many successful collaborations in his long career. Jack de Jonnette, Gary Peacock, and Miles Davis, are but a few of these collaborators. This album, however, features just Keith, alone, solo, on the piano. The pieces thus harken to his early solo career, when he primarily released solo pieces. There is a strong contemplative element to those early releases. While not rising to the level of his Koln Concert -- how could anyone top that? -- this rendition is very satisfying, very contemplative, and Jarrett at his best.

I love love love this cd. I forgot how much better discs sound thank digital music. It was like hearing this for the first time, but better. Thank you so much. :)

This is not standard Keith Jarrett music, but it can tell you where Keith Jarrett and Philip Glass music got started!

This disc is a delight, With tremendous interpretation by Keith Jarrett, the music transports you to a far away realm! Whether as background in the house or a disc for focused listening, this is a keeper!

Gurdjieff''s mystical compositions from the late 18th century can be challenging, but Keith Jarrett brings his incredible talent to the task, providing a stunning performance of these beautifully composed pieces. I can also highly recommend Jarrett's album of Shostakovich's Preludes and Fugues.

La música de Gurdjieff va mejor con la exactitud que con la improvisación. Vale mucho la pena escuchar versiones que buscan más el seguir la partitura y también ésta versión

I am a fan of Keith Jarrett and I have most of his recordings on LP and or CD. I have seen him live several times. This recording is more for the completists. In my opinion it’s not an essential recording. Plenty of recordings to start with like the Koln concert or the Sunbear Concerts. Bremen/Lausanne,Paris or Vienna Concerts or Melody at night, with you.Take the time to discover Keith Jarrett - He’s brilliant. Please check out his trio works. Start with “At the Blue Note”

Vielleicht ist der Komponist tatsächlich nicht so der Hit und Jarrett eigentlich viel zu gut, um das zu interpretieren. Aber die Aufnahmen greifen einem tatsächlich ans Herz, und der Anschlag des Meisters ist wie immer der Hammer.

Georges Gurdjieff, n'était pas un personnage bien recommandable, aujourd'hui, il serait probablement à la tête d'une secte avec son copain Hartmann, et pourtant sa musique, simplissime mais néanmoins riche de références à la musique traditionnelle, est interprétée avec génie par Keith Jarett au meilleur de sa forme. Entre le compositeur et le Pianiste, le courant passe c'est une évidence !Si vous aimez la musique répétitive et minimaliste, achetez ce disque en priorité ! Magnifiquement enregistré avec une dynamique diabolique, il ravira les fans de  Einaudi  ou de  Arvo Part  (celui de Alina). La plénitude sonore passera à travers vos oreilles pour vous apportez sinon le nirvana du moins la sérénité. Grâce extatique que celle de Jarett dont les improvisations célèbres passent quelques fois par les notes de ce compositeur fumeux.Conclusion : Georges Gurdjieff, né en 1877 était au moins un visionnaire !
