E.T. - The Extra Terrestrial [Special Edition] [DVD]

Don't waste your time with disc 2. It don't work. Disc 1 excellent movie. Classic 80s I was 10 years old when this came out.

Absolutely loved this film as a child and it took me right back to my childhood watching this amazing film again, some good extra features too

In Australia our version of the Limited Edition Collector's Edition includes a soft toy of E.T, While there is nothing wrong with this, it does pale against the magnificence that is the spaceship that features lights and music. Pressing the button opens the top of the spaceship revealing the BLU RAY disc as it slowly elevates to an extract of the 'Main Title' from E.T. While this is happening the door featuring E.T. himself on the steps slowly descends open. Out of all the collector's editions I have bought in the past, in my opinion, this so far is the best one. I truly can see this becoming a valued collector's item as time passes by, especially if kept in mint condition. This edition would suit any fan of sci-fi who also is a collector of movie merchandise and collectables. Would make a perfect Christmas or Birthday gift! The movie transfer itself found me a little disappointed, I regretfully must say. While I appreciate some BLU RAY enthusiasts like to keep the film grain in when trans-coding older films to Blu ray disc keeping original film print integrity, I prefer for a film to be cleaned up. After seeing the excellent work they did at cleaning up 'Jaws' for Blu Ray, I thought E.T. was going to receive the same treatment. I was wrong. Don't get me wrong though, I am still happy that I have E.T. on Blu Ray, but to be honest, I can't really can't see too much of a dramatic difference between Blu Ray and the latest DVD release. I have a 7.1 THX surround system. Jaws blew me away with its new 7.1 soundtrack, E.T. didn't.

Well have always been debating whether to get this or not since it was released; you know how it is something you once loved to watch re-watch it and you end up not liking it. Granted ET is a classic you can't deny that. But with my taste greatly changed as I do like the darker material. But purchased this after the price was good and a keen Blu ray steelbook collector I couldn't resist. The steelbook is nice better than some that have come out, the picture is brilliant, this is what blu rays are for. None of that half done high definition transfers that barely look better than its dvd counterpart. Though with the various content out their they could have put more special features on. though can't complain with the ones you get. And at least you get a digital copy as well fed up with that pain in the backside Ultra-violet but no dvd copy. Now i will stop moaning now. I don't see the point in reviewing the actual film as everyone must have heard of it. But it's a film that will bring back memories for a lot of people; it does for me. As i loved this when i was growing up. It made me smile and gave me that joyful goosebumps you get when your young and you watch a feelgood movie. but thankfully ET isn't your average feel good movie. it doesnt lean to trying to overly convey a message. Yes happy ending and all that; But this is a must for family viewing. Nothing like a sunday afternoon snacks curled up on the sofa and travel through childhood. Special Features: The E.T. E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is a 1982 American science fiction film co-produced and directed by Steven Spielberg, and written by Melissa Mathison. It features special effects by Carlo Rambaldi and Dennis Muren and stars Henry Thomas, Dee Wallace, Peter Coyote, Robert MacNaughton, Drew Barrymore and Pat Welsh. It tells the story of Elliott (Thomas), a lonely boy who befriends an extraterrestrial, dubbed "E.T.", who is stranded on Earth. Elliott and his siblings help E.T. return to his home planet while attempting to keep him hidden from their mother and the government. The concept was based on an imaginary friend Spielberg created after his parents' divorce in 1960. In 1980, Spielberg met Mathison and developed a new story from the stalled sci-fi horror film project Night Skies. It was filmed from September to December 1981 in California on a budget of $10.5 million USD. Unlike most films, it was shot in roughly chronological order, to facilitate convincing emotional performances from the young cast. I absolutely love this film, with all its heart and emotional storytelling of the young boy Elliot (Henry Thomas) and the ET left on earth and the connection between them as Elliot helps him get home. The whole cast is A-class, it will surely go down as one of Spielberg best films, as the effect it had on me as a small boy watching it when I was five still brings a tear to my eyes. When you have kids of your own sit down with them and show them a truly magical film.

Sent me just a bonus dvd, absolute scam

Film wiadomo - klasyk. Wydanie rewelacyjne (brak wersji PL! Nie sugeruj się innym wydaniem włoskim!), ale po rozpakowaniu z folii steelbook rozpadł się na 2 części. Podejrzewam zbyt duży nacisk w transporcie, przez co puścił grzbiet. Wymiana niemożliwa, bo obcy sprzedawca, więc musi zostać co jest.

The sound and picture quality was first class and met 4K standard. I highly recommend the 4k Ultra Hd version of ET. Amazon were quick and efficient in getting the 4k DVD to me in Australia. The asking price was good value.
