Old Masters, Dark Walnut 80708 Gel Stain, 1 Pint (Single), 16 Fluid Ounces

This is possibly the best finishing product I've ever used. I had to get four unfinished chairs that were mis-matched woods to match a dark walnut table. After several coats of Minwax (both spray and hand applied) I still could not get them dark enough. This product not only darkened them and evened out the tone, it helped them all match each other with various shades of wood underneath. Lots of open working time and easy to remove if you've gone too dark. After 24 hours, totally cured and ready for wax. A dream product to use, couldn't be happier.

This stain truly working amazingly. I am redoing a lot of honey oak cabinets to give them more of a rustic feel. I did a TON of research because I wanted just the right tone and I stumbled upon the Spanish Oak gel stain. The color is great and amazingly transforms the wood to look like it came with the stain (shows the grain) instead of just looking painted which I REALLY didn’t want. It’s great because it’s only taking one coat for the perfect tone I was looking for. I would highly recommend if you want the natural wood look and not just a cover up. It truly takes away the orange tone of the oak cabinets that I didn’t want.

My painter recommended Old Masters Stain as having the best depth of color (pigment) for a small project that have to stain new oak corbels, and the results exceeded my expectations. The walnut color was beautiful even after one coat. This is the first time that I used a gel product, and it was so easy to work with. No splashing when stirring or applying the stain. A great find.

The product arrived 1 day earlier than expected so that was a good start. I purchased this on Amazon because the major box retailers did not have "Gel" stains in stock. This is a great product for fiberglass. My doors were originally finished 10 years ago and take a lot of sun. you can see in the picture a before and after door side by side. I thoroughly prepped the existing door to make sure the new finish would adhere. follow instructions carefully. the quart sized finished 2 single and 1 double garage door. I am very pleased with the results. I have not yet sealed over it, which is a must in my opinion and have no idea how well it will hold up but it's a pretty good brand. take your time and try to do when there isn't direct sun as the product sets quickly.

The stain is great. I used dark walnut on all of my knotty alder trim, doors and cabinets. I wiped on and off with staining cloth. We found that using a stippling brush was great for getting the stain into the knots. The most frustrating part is the safety plastic they put around the rim of the can for shipping. it's impossible to remove.

I’ve used this on our exterior doors and stair railing. It goes on beautifully and gave me the deep, rich color I was looking for.

I tried two other gel brands that did not work for me. When working on a house the owner had me use this in dark walnut to glaze over turquoise for her kitchen- it's beautiful! Since then I have gone though 3 qts, which goes a long way, to restain all of my oak woodwork in my home. I only apply one coat since my oak was a bit darker than the standard golden oak. My stair banister rails were done over a year ago without a top coat and are holding up wonderful. I use a chip brush to apply, wipe it with an old tee shirt then uses the dried off chip brush again if needed to even out application. I did use it on unfinished wood, trying to match a new door to my old ones and it was way too dark. I needed to seal the wood first and then apply two coats of gel stain. I won't buy any other stain at this point. For restraining wood or glazing for a warm antiqued look this is a 10 star product.

Stains really well and darkness can easily be controlled with length of exposure or coats. Recommended by the professional who also beautifully stained my kitchen cabinets with it.
