A truly great British comedy
I think this is my all time favourite comedy. It's one of only a few that I have watched several times. There are several scenes that make me laugh out loud every time. I even replaced my old vhs copy with a dvd. Why this isn't available on Amazon prime I will never know. It deserves to be seen by more people. I have shown it to several friends who loved it as much as I do. It is a very British comedy with a mixture of pathos, silliness and really poignant comic moments. It is heartwarming and uplifting. Just the remedy for feeling a bit jaded or a rainy day. There are great performances by a range of well known British actors. It's also set in some great scenery. I'm not going to say anything about the plot because if you haven't seen it you deserve to be surprised and moved by the emerging story. Enjoy! !

Sweet Little British Crime Caper
Oh, what fun this little film is! The story of a highly respectable middle aged widow growing cannabis in her greenhouse to avoid losing her beautiful house is delightfully off-beat. Hopefully even the greatest opponents of drug use will get it that drug production and marketing are played purely for comic effect. Grace has a green thumb and a suitable space for the growing of the illegal but highly profitable crop, her pot smoking gardener has a few struggling plants and connections to market the crop. It seems highly unlikely that the townspeople aren't aware of Grace's activities, and there is much fun to be had watching them and willing them not to notice what is going on in their town. Or at least to keep pretending they don't notice... And when Grace goes to the big city to market her product things take an even more hilarious turn! The entire cast is excellent with Brenda Blethyn at her most likable as the unlikely drug queen, Craig Ferguson is convincing and equally likable as her laid back partner in crime, and Martin Clunes' appearance as the local doctor (which apparently inspired the highly successful series Doc Martin) is one of the highlights of the film. The filming locations in beautiful Cornwall add to the overall charm. This is a highly enjoyable comedy, a bit of light hearted escapism aimed at an audience that isn't keen on exciting action scenes and violence. Perfect for a quiet evening in.A few words about the DVD: There are no subtitles. The following extra features are included: - Theatrical Trailer - Cast & Crew Interviews - Making Of Featurette

Bit silly but passes the time
I hadn't seen this film when it first came out, but I bought as the TV series Doc Martin traces its origins to this film, and with the wonderful Brenda Blethyn, it's hard to go too far wrong. The thread connecting it to the show is pretty thin though, with the same setting, but an entirely different cast of villagers and even the doctor, as played by Martin Clunes, is completely different in character and temperament to the curmudgeonly GP we come to know in the series. The story - a penniless widow turns to cannabis growing to pay the bills - is entertaining enough, but perhaps not explored in as much depth as it could be. It's OK, but feels more like a fairly average episode of Doc Martin than a classic film.

A lovely film with brilliant acting, set in beautiful Cornwall
I bought this film as I enjoyed it the first time, and basically I want to make all my family fall in love with it. You cannot go wrong with Brenda Blethyn & Martin Clunes topped with a huge dose of Cornwall (Port Isaac)I believe the young Martin Clunes fell in love with the area, and it helped with the decision of filming Doc Martin there.

Pure Entertainment
I love films like this, films to make you feel happy and warm inside. The story of newly widowed Grace (Brenda Blethyn) and her desperate need to make money quickly by growing her own drugs. The TV series Doc Martin was a sort of spin off from this film, although the character of the doctor, played superbly by Martin Clunes is very different from the TV series. Indeed I much prefer the Saving Grave character over the Doc Martin character, but then again I much prefer the whacky to the serious. The scene near the end in the shop with the two older ladies (sisters?) is impossible to watch without laughing, fabulous.A comedy with a message and British acting at its best, a film to watch over and over.

Such is life
Alright, I admit it: I did buy this movie because I took a shine to Gerard Butler in the first place, and secondly, because Brenda Blethyn has done quite a couple of good movies and hence guarantees good value for money. However, this movie belongs to me to the quality found in films such as "The Full Monty", "Waking Ned Devine", "Billy Elliot", you name it.The plot tells us the story of a woman who gets into financial difficulties thanks to her husband having led a secret life and not having been a clever businessman either.Well, she finds a way, also thanks to smoking cannabis. Doing so for the first time down by the beach (great acting!!!) is like a release of a part of herself she'd been denying for the sake of her marriage and a life of conventions for far too long a time.Anyway, she gradually gets her business going, so to speak, supported by her gardener, and the village - including the policeman - know and enjoy the nightly light show emanating from her greenhouse.... the end I'm not going to give away, certainly not.Go get the DVD and laugh your head off! :-)

Amazing Grace
I really enjoyed this film and it was good to see Brenda Blethyn attempting something different. Despite the negative reviews and the accusations that you've got to be a stoner to appreciate it (just shows people's mentality!) it's a fun film. Believe me I can think of a lot worse out there that have been given brilliant reviews.
