Vintage Solid Brass sand timer brown antique finish fully hand made item fully functional hour glass maritime item.

Main thing to note is this is very little. I wasn’t it to be big but was still surprised at how tiny it is. Quality seems fine. This was given as a gift for someone who collects sand timers so the small size was actually preferable, but important to check dimensions if you are expecting something bigger than the palm of your hand.

I loved this little timer when I first opened the package, and I was pleased to discover that it was accurate within 3 seconds, which is impressive for a sand timer. HOWEVER, when I'd had it for about a week, suddenly the sand started clumping and sticking as if it was wet. Puzzled, I unscrewed the base to see if the glass had cracked, and discovered that the glass, while intact, had NEVER BEEN SEALED. The small opening in the glass that allows the maker to add and adjust the sand was covered with a single piece of clear plastic tape, and the design relies on the taped end being pressed into a hidden foam pad to keep the sand in.In retrospect, my mistake was either allowing the glass to be set down on a damp countertop, or gently wiping it with a damp cloth. Some modicum of humidity then compromised the adhesive in the tape, and contaminated the sand.So, in conclusion, this sand timer is a beautiful, heavy, classy-looking, antique-replica-esque prop, not a functional good. It won't work longer than Scotch tape can withstand a kitchen or a bathroom, use by children, proximity to a body of water, or humid weather. You'd be better off making one out of cardboard-- it would be just as waterproof as this "maritime item", and much cheaper!

Product has sharp edges and metal shavings that will scratch your desk (and hands) or whatever you put it on. The cuts were clearly made in haste and they give this item a very cheap look and feel rather than the refined and artistic craftsmanship of old nautical brass instruments. There are also random cuts in the sides that appear to be an attempt at design but again they just look cheap and lazy. They don’t belong or relate to the supposed Nautical theme. The sand is a weird purple color (not nautical at all). The only things that support the nautical claim is the brass material itself and a logo with an anchor and ship’s wheel. I wish I hadn’t bought this.

I got this because I wanted a short (~1 minute) hourglass that looked nice and was well built. The metal casing is sturdy and attractive, the sand flows well and there are no leaks. Everything came as expected and I'm very satisfied.

Consistently 5 seconds fast. Comes in around 54-57 seconds after dozens of tries. I know it says 'approx' just providing details for other buyers

We made up a rule in Catan. It’s called the longest turn and you lose 2 victory points once the timer runs out twice on a turn. Helps speed the game up and add some challenges. Great look
