Nice set, works as intended.
This worked out really well. Good value compared to other sets that don't seem nearly as durable. My only issue with this buy is that it took 4 days to get to me, instead of the 2 as promised--but thats no reflection on this Irwin Screw Extractor kit. Overall. Excellent set with intended result. "GOD" exists I'm convinced.
Ok first I'm not a man of religion AT ALL. But I am convinced there has to be an omnipotent force because I simply REFUSE to believe "mankind" is the pinnacle of intelligence. On to my point... I bought a 2015 Freightliner Columbia (my first truck) that was a former FedEx Ground contractor fleet truck. Poorly maintained and neglected 🤦🏾♂️! So I have the pleasure of catching up on the maintenance and repairs. Well the water pump on the Series 60 12.7 was shot so I had to replace it. Replaced it but 6 months down the road it was leaking oil from the bottom where the pump mates to the back of the front cover case. Went to re torque the bolts and noticed the bottom bolt closest to the block was missing somehow. Bought a bolt from the Freightliner dealer to put in the whole only to have my heart drop because it wouldn't seat nor thread in 😱😱! It was at this moment I cursed every carbon based organism and every derivative from the periodic table 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬! Drained the system, took the pump off only to notice the gasket failed and caused the oil leak. Ok! So took my phone and videoed the hole to see the bolt. YEP.. it's broke in the casing. So I ordered a long, slim center punch, reverse drills and the Irwin bolt extractor. Center helped but drilling into a broken screw blind is difficult. After 2 hours of drilling, sweating and potty mouthing I finally drilled a hole in the broken bolt. Put the Irwin extractor in the bolt hole blindly and tapped it twice semi hard. Closed my eyes and said "God.. I don't bother you for nothing. But today I need your help here so I can feed all these damn kids I have 🤣🤣!". So I put a cresent wrench on the extractor and turned slowly and it started twisting out 😮! I smiled, kinda chuckled and said "Thank you" Am I still a depressed, angry, overweight, business owning GENXer that struggles with insomnia, high blood pressure and not procreating? AB-SO-LUTELY👍🏽! BUT.. GOD and I are now familiar strangers 🤗🤗!

Worked as expected
One of them broke but to be honest, you can't have either strength AND flexibility from metal so there should be a tradeoff somewhere and here is the broke. Anyway i was able to pull a nut that wasn't that tightened and the one that broke has still screw to be used. I guess that i can play with the sizing of the others.

Extractors that actually work
I purchased these after a few other options didn’t work. While working on a project car, a set screw that mated the shifting linkage to the transaxle decided that it wanted to strip. After going to Home Depot and buying a set of ez outs and them failed immediately; the ez out stripped itself in the first few seconds, I was thinking about drilling it out. Luckily I decided to give these a try, and after getting these in, the set screw was out in a matter of seconds. It’s amazing when you have the right tool for the job. Since then, I’ve used these on so many stripped screws and broken studs on this car, that this has paid for itself over and over again.

Well made
I’ve tried to break the bigger ones off and they break whatever you are turning them with tough stuff worth the money made in USA

Not for small screws - Where is the bit holder?
Purchased from Hardware & Garden supplies, so I am not sure if this is just how Irwin sells this extractor set now, or if this particular set is packaged uniquely bad now. But mine came in a plastic package that once you open, it will not hold the bits inside any more. Which means you have six random extractor bits floating around your toolbox or tool drawer. Half of which are useless, as this set is not for small screws. What happened to the blue bit holder that is pictured in top of the listing? This has become unacceptable in my opinion that so many sellers on Amazon think they can get away with selling an inferior version of a product, under a listing with completely different pictures. Six extractor bits did show up, however the blue holder is a part of what is for sale here. If you are selling the version with the plastic packaging, then make a different listing with the new plastic packaging clearly shown in the product pictures. This current listing is what is known as fraud. As stated above, this set of extractors just doesn’t work on small screws. This is for larger bolts, but not for high torque bolts. You are looking for the short extractors with the twisting pattern for smaller screws. Do not buy Bosch, Gearwrench, or the Craftsman version. They are all worse than the Irwin set. The Lisle version may work better if you are breaking this Irwin set inside of screws. All extractors are pretty much single use items however. Sometimes you can get a few uses out of one of the extractor bits, but I would not count on it. There is a learning curve to correctly extracting screws and bolts. Do not just start drilling into a stuck screw or bolt just because you watched a YouTube video.

A classic design with so so results
I've owned many similar extractors in the past, and the essential differences were brands, sizes and degree of taper. I've had successes, and a number of failures that I had always attributed to not having the right size. I found having a complete set of these no more helpful than owning the handful I already had. After these failed to help me, I ended up buying an Alden 8430P Pro Grabit Broken Bolt and Damaged Screw Extractor 3 Piece Kit . It was slightly more expensive than this one at the time I bought it, but prices fluctuate. The price difference was not enough to justify buying this one first, and the other only if this one failed to work. I'd suggest buying the Alden first. It might not work for every screw for every user, but no product will. I don't mean to imply that this product is inferior to other products of this design. If you've used traditional extractors, you can expect to get the results you expect. Not all failures will be because of the tool's design. People tend not to give bad reviews to products when they blame the situation. But user error rate also affects the likelihood that you will have the same problem. In my case "it was only because the specific situation didn't let me...." I can still blame the tool for lacking versatility, the ability to be used in certain tight spots, and with certain types of stripped heads.

Good stuff
My favorite brand of extractors. They work great, but remember that they take a specific technique (tap a divot with a punch, drill out appropriate hole, tap extractor in with hammer, THEN extract. And remember also extractors are consumables, they WILL break eventually regardless of brand, even if properly handled. IMO Irwin makes the best and longest lasting.

Ottime

Same narzędzie super, błędny opis
