Cheap, easy tracking option.
UPDATE: After working well for 6 months the tracker failed - no lights, no response to calls or texts. The service from the supplier was excellent. After running through some recommended checks (I had already done these checks but repeated them to be sure) the supplier offered to replace with no charge. It's disappointing that the original unit failed but I can't fault the after sales service. I bought this tracker for my ageing motorhome and was pleasantly surprised by it's quality and accuracy. You will need a constant DC supply (12-36v) and a location which is not screened by metal vehicle bodywork - quite easy in a motorhome with a GRP body. Power consumption seems to be minimal so since I have a solar panel on the van I connected it to the leisure battery. I used a GiffGaff PAYG sim which works well but because the tracker uses SMS in the basic location mode, at 10p per message this can get through credit quite quickly. Perhaps 1p Mobile might be a better option. It is possible to use an app or website which will allow tracking, access being free for the first 12 months then $5 US for a further 10 years. I've found accuracy to be within 5 metres and often better which is fine if you're looking for a big white box on wheels! I would not expose the unit to the elements because it doesn't appear to be fully waterproof but in my case this was not a problem. The instructions need to be interpreted from Chinese English and some of the SMS commands could be better explained but there is plenty on the internet for this generic GPS tracker. The supplier also emailed supplementary information a day after delivery which would have been useful if I hadn't already set the unit up! In conclusion, I was favourably impressed by this little unit and the only thing I cannot yet comment on is it's durability ... time will tell.

The Definitive Review
Received this item within 3 days of ordering, it appears it came via France so all good so far. First impression upon opening the box was a well made item that looked fit for purpose and great value for money, though mine did not come with the green and yellow wires. Looked at the instructions and was disappointed to find poorly written ChineseEnglish... so after 3 hours of head scratching, copious amounts of coffee and cigarettes I finally got there. Installing the item is straightforward. Insert a full size SIM card then find a permanent live feed and once connected hide the unit away from metal preferably under the dashboard facing upwards. Once connected the lights will illuminate to inform you of power, GPS fix and connection to a mobile phone signal. After about 5 minutes the lights go out but it still functions. To check if you have the unit working correctly with the correct location text your tracker with the command url#, a reply text will give you a link to Google maps to display your trackers location. All nice and easy, i found this uses 2 text credits from your balance. An alternative to use 1 text credit is to phone your tracker's mobile number and it will text you back with its location. But first you need to tell the tracker the number of your mobile, up to 3 numbers can control this function. In the user manual this is: 9.User Settings 1) Center So you will text admin#1#yourmobilenumber# and a reply text will confirm. Another option is to track your vehicle in real time. I have found a website called trackme.lk to be suitable for my needs and so far it has been free of any subscription. In section 2)APN of the manual we need to let the tracker know the internet settings of the SIM card. If you go down the GiffGaff route you will need to text the unit apn#giffgaff.com#giffgafff# or Asda mobile, both appear to be the better choice as they have a pay as you go option which should last about 7 months with a ยฃ10 top-up. So for Asda mobile text this to the tracker apn#everywhere#eesecure#secure# in either case you will receive a text back as confirmation. If you decide to use trackme.lk as your preferred option section 3)IP/PORT will configure your tracker to the website. Text this to your tracker ip#128.199.174.173#5002# you will receive a confirmation text back if all is good. Section 4)GMT refers to the time displayed in your texts of the trackers location. The time is set to Beijing time but here in the UK we are 8 hours behind so you will need to text #timezone#E0# again you will receive back a confirmation message. Section 5)TIME refers to how often your unit will ping trackme.lk with its new location. The default is 15 seconds, obviously the quicker it pings the more data it will use. If, for example, you want it to ping once every minute text upload#60# if ok a confirmation text will be received. I have found 1 ping every 10 seconds will use about 1MB of data per day. With regards to the setup of the trackme.lk website this can be a little frustrating. Luckily I made a note of this and it is as follows: once you have registered click on the ADD button in the top left hand corner. This will bring up a box for you to input your units information. For NAME this can be the model and make of your vehicle. UNIQUE IDENTIFIER: your SIM will have its own unique IMEI number. Take the last 11 digits and precede this with a 0 (zero). Input this 12 digit number here. PHONE NUMBER: the mobile phone number of your SIM card. That is pretty much it, there are other options to play with like geofence but this should get you up and running. Hope it helps :)

Great product, hopeless instructions
This is a cheap way of tracking your car, motorcycle or scooter. 1. Throw the hopeless instructions in the bin and look at reviews and questions on here. Much better. 2. Buy a sim card. I went for the Gif Gaf one Amazon offer for 99p. It works a treat. You will need to top up the first time but you get a free ยฃ5. 3. Activate your Sim Card using a mobile phone. You may also have to create an online account depending on the provider. 4. Store this new number in your main personal phone 5. Once your sim card is active fit to the tracker. It will just open using your nails as the screws come separate. 6. Test the tracker it on the battery of your car/bike first BEFORE you fit it. it will take a minute to power up and then all the lights will flash on the front of the box. 7. To test send a text to the tracker number- smslink123456 8. In a few seconds you will get a google map link back. Click on link and location of bike/car is revealed. 9. Read some reviews about setting time. Itโs a bit hit and miss. What worked for me was- Time zone 123456 0 you will get a "time zone OK" text back. Even though it wasnโt! 10. Once you are happy with it itโs time to fit it to your car or bike. 11. fitting takes a little bit of knowledge (what is a positive cable and what is a negative cable) and I would conceal wires when fitting. There is a really good video on you tube fitting to car but same principals apply to a bike 12. You can fit direct to the battery and is a small drain but nothing to worry about and charging all the time or like me fit the wires within the terminals. If you do this the tracker will charge when you run the bike. If you use regularly this wonโt be a problem. The tracker is tucked away somewhere concealed. 13. Itโs an excellent bit of kit. I only wish I fitted it to the bike that I had stolen, hindsight is a wonderful thing. I hope I never have to use it to find my bike but it does provide me with a bit of peace of mind... Along with a big lock.

Fire hazard
So I bought this because I was too cheap to pay a few hundred quid for a real tracker. I thought this might be an ok alternative. It's fitted just by plugging it into the battery. Ok, simple. Instructions are a bit of a joke but I managed to figure it out. It worked fine for a few weeks, I was satisfied. A few months ago I noticed that it stopped responding to my calls or texts. I neglected to check it, realistically out of laziness. I went to have a look today and saw that some plasticy mess has fizzled out of the charging port, and it clearly looks like it has got very hot as even the metal inside it shows discoloration. This is beyond a joke and a clear fire hazard. Now I'm beginning to wonder whether this POS had anything to do with my battery failing, as it stopped working around the time I had to have it changed (ยฃ180 for my car).

Good for the price
The instructions should be better. The device is good enough. For the price I think it is fair. If you have an extra way to track the money in the SIM card you're using with this it would be helpful, like a website or an app. I have and it's great. I found some commands online that helped me when I got some errors. Some of them work others may not. *Initialization: begin+password *Change password: password+OldPassword+space+NewPassword (ex: password000000 111111) *Setup authorized phone number: admin+password+space+PhoneNumber (ex: admin111111 910000000) *Delete authorized phone number: noadmin+password+space+PhoneNumber to be deleted (ex: noadmin111111 910000000) *TimeZone: time+space+zone+password+zone number (ex: time zone111111 0) *Check device status: check+password (ex: check111111) *Activate SMS only function: sms+password (ex: sms111111) *Request location by SMS: smslink+password (ex: smslink111111) * Reboot the device: Reboot+password (ex: Reboot111111) ### Extra functions ### #Auto track#___________________ *Auto track - 5 times with 30 seconds interval: t030s005n+password *Auto track - 26 times with 5 minutes interval: t005m026n+password *Auto track - 10 times with 1 hours interval: t001h010n+password *Auto track - heaps of times with 30 seconds interval: t030s***n+password *Cancel Auto Track: notn+password *Switch to Tracker mode tracker+password tracker ok *Geo Fencing: stockade+password+space+longitudeE/W,latitudeN/S; longitudeE/W,latitudeN/ *Cancel Geo Fencing nostockade+password *Movement alert move+password Cancel Movement alert nomove+password *IMEI checking imei+password *SMS Center adminsms+password+space+cell phone number *Cancel SMS Center noadminsms+password *Low battery alert low battery+Geo-info *Time zone setting time+space+zone+password+space+TimeZone *Switch to the link format smslink+password *switch back to the text format smstext+password *To get one time positioning smsone123456 *Tlimit function tlimit123456 100 *Cancel Tlimit function tlimit123456 0 *Motion sensor shake123456 0-10 (0 means off,1 means the lowest sensitive, 10 means the highest sensitive) *Tracker reply one sms with GOOGLE MAP link smslinkone+password link to google map *set the GPS re-fresh time interval gpsautosearch123456 120 120 means 120 seconds, and 120 is the minimum

well made simple GPS device awful instructions poorly translated from Chinese and questionable running cost [SIM COST ]
even though i have not fitted this device to my car i will review it using my electrical knowledge as a guide .[i am a retired spark ] i bought the device as a panic purchase because we had car thieves on our very quiet little road [the first time in 20 years ] they stole from a few cars and i being disabled i did not want my car being interfered with as i need it and i am unable to replace what i have ,,anyway back to the tracker what has put me off installing it is the appalling lack of clear information regarding the charges to use the device ..i have contacted giff gaff as they seem to be the cheapest SIM only deals but they did not give me a clear answer either nor did any of the other people that i asked .some people said that using the device would cost me around a ยฃ1 per text and some said it would be just a few pence .there is a massive difference between pounds and pence when you on a budget and when i asked if the device uses data as well as text and are the text normal or premium text i received conflicting answers so if anyone in the UK is using this device with a PAYG SIM and just paying pence per text i would love to hear from you .the device is well made and just requires a permanent live a clean ground [ a clean ground it a separate ground negative ..most vehicle systems use a common neutral point as the vehicles run a 12 volt system .its advisable to wire up using a direct live [fuese ]and and direct neutral .i already have a dual 12 volt socket for powering my sat nav and i did have a dash cam on the other side of the socket .the socket is hidden away from eyes and would have been very easy to just plug this device in to the side that was free and hide the GPS device away from eyes BUT until i get 100 % proof that it will only cost me pence pre text i am not fitting the device .and to this i asked to return the device but the vendor has let me keep the device FOC as returning a ยฃ13 item back to hong kong would cost too much so THANK YOU TO THE VENDOR .

Buy of the century!
This is an unreal piece of kit for the price, this is the stuff you saw in movies growing up, and now you can own super cool spytech stuff for ยฃ15?!...get outta town. Ok so like anything I'm fairly certain the ones that have left bad reviews aren't tech savvy or just rushed the process so let's begin: Step 1 - order a giff gaff sim card, just to be clear when it arrives just leave it be, you don't need to put it in your phone, any references to phone stuff is to do with your normal handset. When it arrives go to giffgaff.com and activate the activation code on the sim. You will then need you register the sim (it'll guide you through the process don't worry), and then choose a payment plan. Now read the web page very closely here and pay attention because giff gaff will try and push the goody bag package which is essentially a pay monthly contract...you do not want this. It will have a small link underneath that option saying something like top up with credit instead. I selected the ยฃ10 option (you'll get an additional ยฃ5 on top of that which is nice too). Enter your debit card details and wham bam you're done. You'll get a confirmation email which will have the sim cards phone number on, save that in your phone now as GPS - Bike or whatever. And to be honest that's the hardest part over with in my opinion. Step 2: Now take the GPS unit out of its packaging and prise the back off with your fingers and nails only, no need to get leverage happy here and bed a screwdriver into your arm. There's a small silver tab which says open in tiny letters, slide this back and pop your sim in with the gold sim chip facing down. Close the tab, put the back on and use the 4 screws provided to seal the unit. Step 3: Don't try testing this on a 12v battery it doesn't work...dont ask me how I know. Hook your positive and negative wires onto your bikes terminals and wait for the lights to start flashing. I then wrapped my unit in some gaffa tape as I'm not convinced of its water proof capabilities considering it has a giant open usb port on the side. Step 4: Some people have said you need to send a text message to the devices number with: admin123456 space after the 6 followed by your phone number. All I did however was text: smslink123456 And I got one back within 10 seconds with the GPS link to the bike. Yes it really was that simple. Personally I think if you try to get fancy with cheap goods that's when you start having problems, trying to set the time on something that can only interpret basic instructions is a bit risky in my opinion especially once you've got it working...who cares anyway, you know what time it is. Hope this helps, I can't speak for longevity as it might break in a week but right now I'm texting my bike from my house and it feels pretty awesome :)

Takes lots of current to keep working.
Good device for tracking and easy to set up. However I found that if left connected on my Motorcycle my Battery would go flat in two days. On checking the current needed by the device it is about 500ma. Now I have removed the device my Bike will start after Two weeks idle in the garage. Now looking for alternative ?

Super cheap, mindblowing accuracy, just read the instructions
Wow, i was skeptical, but it works really well, as long as you read the instructions and can follow directions. Once you set it up, its pretty much set and forget. Just make sure you get a sim card that supports 2g, its really that simple. This tracks with an error of about 0.5-5feet, just for giggles to test, i put it on my dash and drove home from work and i parked in the same spot my car shows up on google earth. When i looked at the last gps update, it showed the tracking pin on my dashboard in the car on the map. Tried it again the next day, same thing inna parking spot with a good frame of reference at work, this thing is amazing for the price. Onoy complaint is that it gives me tons of low voltage alarms when the battery is connected to the tender since stops charging momentarily to test voltage and the sudden fluctuation set off the voltage detection alarm.

Love it! Works as expected
Love it! Works as expected. Might help to include in the posting that it's compatible with older GSM frequencies. For Canada use, go with cellular service provided by Petro Canada (Rogers). Bell or Wind is not supported.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY...!
I'm a verified purchaser of this here and believe me when I say DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY...! Installed it OK, it worked one time, then it died and never worked again. Get the TrackmateGPS Mini 3G H Real Time Hard Wired GPS Tracker for $49.99 Prime here, it works on their web site when you log in, just go to your account and click the little arrow on your device list and it opens a clear map with address point every time for $16/ month. Cost more but reliable, not like this $18 piece of garbage. Now I gotta figure out how to get the sim card account canceled.

cheap
This is not weather sealed and is restrictive to where it can be placed as it states that it can't be installed under any metal therefore can't be placed under a hood etc.. I also had to purchase and active a cell SIM card to use it. I wound up returning it and paid a little more for a better sealed unit here on Amazon that can be placed anywhere in the car without restrictions or signal interference. I do have to pay them $12 a month to keep it activated but it's cheaper than the SIM card was costing me.
