STRICTLY BEDS&BUNKS Somerset Pine Bed Frame, 4ft 6 Double

Bought this at the end of July and have now come to construct having moved house. One of the main slats is warped so cannot go on (I will see if I can leave it out as I need my daughter to have a bed tonight). Next up, the screw fittings (fastened with an allen key) don't go in all the way. Massively annoying. We actually bought a king size one before which was fine but this looks like it won't go together as intended.

I ordered this bed as I am disabled with a bad spine and arthritis throughout my body. I still built it myself!!!!!! The wood is good, one of the siderails had a slight warp but not enough to detract from the build. There were more than enough screws and dowels contained in the pack too......a pleasant change. I admit I used a cordless drill for the screws but the Allen bolts I did by hand. I will check and tighten them every couple of months as you should do with any bolted bed. It is very solid and does not creak and groan as my other beds have and is great for my new memory foam mattress. The communication from the company was excellent and the delivery man a gem!!!! The only things which would help, for me anyway, is if all the legs had slider pads on the bottom as the middle legs catch on the carpet and it is heavy. Also, if the slats were joined together so you knew they were even!!!! Some had to be carefully positioned do the screws went in properly. I would definitely recommend this bed though. Pity they do not do express delivery as many people would want this in a hurray.

Bought this bed as was struggling with my old bed as it was past its best & me having bad arthritis. Wanted something strong & reliable. I orderd it & it arrived within 6 days which considering I live in the north east of Scotland I was pleased with. The company gave me great details about my delivery. The bed arrived in 2 boxes & as soon as the box opened you could smell the wood the instructions were clear my husband built it on his own in a couple of hours (with a couple of breaks). The bed is so strong great height & the extra strengthening features makes me feel very secure with my medical problems. The wood can be waxed varnished or painted to your own preference. You can buy cheaper but you won't match the quality of this 1 saying that this bed is not expensive it is certainly a great British made bed. I have shown all my friends who think it's brilliant & they can't believe the price would recommend to everyone

UPDATE: I’ve had this bed for 2 years and I have to rescind my previous positive comments for this item. The main frame of a this bed has started to come apart and one of the side panels (where the slats are attached to) has broken and now is held up by heavy duty rope. The bed also creeks really badly and doesn’t feel very stable. This bed isn’t a long term product and it’s rather disappointing how it’s lasted for a relatively short time. I honestly wouldn’t recommend unless you need a short term solution.This is a well made bed worth its price. The bed comes in two boxes which doesn’t seem like all of the parts, until you start making it. Putting the bed together was quite an effort due to the fact you are building everything yourself. If you aren’t comfortable with assembling furniture, maybe ask a friend or relative to help out. The bed is durable and can take a fair amount of weight. It is also quite high off the ground, which I love as it’s like I’m on a cloud!In the end, I’d recommend this bed, and for the quality you get, its price really can’t be beaten. It’s not fancy and it doesn’t have any intricate woodwork, but it being plain works in its favour for me - it really makes my colourful and patterned duvet sets stand out.

Excellent delivery on time. IF you read the instructions it is really easy to put together. I am a woman and it took me an hour and a half (with an impact driver). Sadly packing didn't have the spacer or the extra screws for the centre panel, but I improvised. I really like the look of the bed, though it does creak a bit. I am going to tighten after a week. Has a large space underneath for storage and smells of wood! Overall I'm very pleased.

This is the second bed I’ve bought from them.The first was a single bed, was really impressed with it so when it was time to replace my daughters bed it made sense to get another one.The double was easier to put together than the single.Just remember the one simple thing, always clear the holes out really well or you will struggle fitting some of the bolts as they won’t line up.

When we first received this product, it appeared well made and sturdy. However, we've had ours for nearly a year now and the whole bed moves and creaks lots even after tightening the screws. One of the additional side supports sheared the screws and fell off. I'm really dissapointed as I feel it is no longer safe and hasn't even lasted a year.

The quality of the bed is good but, I thought the fixings weren't as good or as strong as I expected for a heavy duty bed. The Headboard was nice and solid as was the frame. The lathes were nice and wide. The middle supports were okay but, the fixing with screws were very poor. These broke off when I tried to move the bed into position on a carpet (you'll need 2 people to lift the bed entirely to move it a small amount). The instructions were pretty good but, a video instruction would have been a better addition on Youtube or Vimeo. I liked the countersunk areas for screws on the lathes. The catch piece for the bolts on the legs etc were a right pain. Wood splinters inside and the slightest misalignment made for frustration at getting the screw bolts to catch. Overall, this bed is fairly good quality and value for money. The customer care and feedback request is admirable (lets hope critique is worked on). I give this product a 4 star and would recommend it but bare in mind my nit picky notes.
