Oh so close
As stated, not wood but composite. Actually looks pretty good; I would have given four stars (one off for being overpriced for what is, at heart, a five dollar composite shelf), but:1. The included hardware, specifically the wall anchors, are terrible. Absolute junk. On the first shelf, one went in and the other three just collaped after two taps with a hammer. I pulled them out, used some other anchors I had sitting around, and no further problems.2. The instructions are confusing and - I kid you not - refer you to a video on the manufacturer's web site that is just flat wrong. My guess is that they changed the design, changed the enclosed instructions, and forgot to update the web site (specifically, you are supposed to scan a QR code on the instructions to take you to the video - I wasn't able to, so I went to their home page and clicked on instructional videos. So I suppose there may be different videos linked from the home page and linked to from the QR code, but that's frankly even more confusing). The video assumes that the slots in the shelf are of different lengths. At least in my case, the slots are the same length and it's the little (very cheap pine) rails that are different lengths. I eventuall figured it out. Here's a useful hint. Several reviewers here have commented that you need a perfectly square corner. Well, unless you have a mathematically perfect right angle, one side or the other is not going to sit flush with the wall. The instructions tell you to put the long rail on the right side. At least in my case, where the slots on both sides were exact mirror images of one another, there's no actual reason you need to do that. INSTEAD, here's what you do: put the long rail on the side whose front end of the shelf is most obvious. That's because the shelf is going to slide down that long rail, and if there is any imperfection with how the shelf lines up that gap will be on the short rail side. In my case, my shelves are holding small surround-sound speakers above and behind a flat panel TV. Nobody would ever see a gap behind the TV. By following the instructions exactly, I wound up with a gap on the left side of both shelves, but the right shelf's left side is hidden from view while the left shelf's left side is facing the viewer, with a small (2mm) but definite gap.Once mounted, they are indeed quite strong and do seem to just hang magically in the air. A bit of improvement in the documentation and especially a step up in the anchors (come on, they must cost less than a penny apiece!) would make this a solid four stars.

Great for Sonos Play:5 Speaker
NOTE: BE CAREFUL WHEN CHOOSING A SIZE. Go to Creative Connectors' website and look at the exact dimensions. Most likely, whatever size you think you need, get the next size smaller. I originally purchased two 16" shelves but ended up uninstalling those and getting two 12" shelves instead. The 16" were much bigger than I had expected. The 12" shelves are PERFECT in every way for my needs. Some reviewers complained about quality, but these shelves look high quality once installed and feel extremely sturdy in the hand. However, exercise caution when installing to avoid nicking off a piece of the outer layer of veneer. That's the weak spot on these guys. I did that on the dark walnut set that I purchased, which exposed the blonde wood underneath, but it totally covered up with a little marker pen.Installing them takes some focus and familiarity with basic measuring and installation techniques (always think one step ahead!), but you'll get it if you spend enough time on it. I'm very happy with my purchase. I now have two 12" shelves holding up two medium-sized home theater speakers (Sonos Play:5 speaker measuring 8.50" height x 14.40" width x 4.80" depth) in the corners of my living room. I personally decided to spray paint the maple with a satin black because the maple color looked somewhat cheap (in my opinion) and didn't match my decor once it arrived. The black satin spray painted finish looks absolutely fantastic (Valspar paint). I also bought a different 16" set in the walnut color, which looks great on its own without any extra effort of painting.Overall, I DEFINITELY recommend this corner shelf. I haven't seen anything online that compares, and I did a fair amount of shopping around before settling on this one.

Very Nice Quality
This is a very nice floating shelf and I highly recommend it. It is designed very well and has clear instructions. It is a vinyl walnut veneer over light colored partical board. I put this in our RV, for a shelf next to our bed for iPod, glasses, phone, and a book. I cut out a small section of it to fit between the rear window valance and closet; cut a corner off with a jig-saw, stained the exposed partical board, and it worked and looks perfect. It slides on one side (rt. side) and rests on the other side (lt.). The corner does not need to be 90 degrees, but if wider, expect a small, unnoticed, space of course. One cannot possibly expect a corner shelf to be anything other than 90 degrees and it is, but this would work for a larger than 90 degree corner. I would buy again and recommend to a friend. It is pricy but I feel it is worth it and came packed very nicely. It comes with 4 screws, 4 plastic expanders (which I did not use), and two pre-drilled pieces of wood that fit in the slots that are perfectly routed into the wall-sides; one side slides in and the other rests on a special piece of hidden wood. The 'split' reviewers speak about is IF the wooden side pieces split from screwing the screws in too tightly. But, I do not think the function would be affected if there was a split. I hope this helps.
