The best kept secret in music...? The best band in the world...? What is Fishstick Gumbo?
So you think you've heard it all; there are only so many styles and only so many bands out there, what could possible grace my ears which hasn't already been swathed? ...Two words:MAN MAN.Six Demon Bag is an album almost impossible to review by a band impossible to categorise, those that have list: Viking Vaudeville, Gypsy Stomp or even Tom Waits being kidnapped by pirates, forced to drink the darkest or ales then sing about the woe's of the world, woes which could include 10b moustaches, spider cider or Van Helsing's boom box.As a band I know very little about them, other than, the beautifully growled lyrics come from vocalist/pianist Honus Honus. The band are multi-instrumentalist whom swap round from song to song and their live shows are, apparently, legendary.I first heard of MAN MAN after a friend played me some tracks, at first I was like ummm yeah right, second time, what the hell is this? Then the third time I was like, Whoa these guys are actually amazing, there lyrics are great, the songs are great, the band are so tight, and you sit back feeling like the cool kid in school for listening to that undiscovered gem.As I said before this album is real hard to review, it's not rock and it's not heavy though in places it is noisy but the noise is always accompanied by beauty, you can listen to it five times and on the sixth you feel like you've never heard it, but I promise you that this album is worth every penny you'll spend on it, and I can also promise you that after hearing it you'll go round to all your friends and ask...have you heard of MAN MAN? Then smerk when they say no.The best kept secret in music...? The best band in the world...? What is Fishstick Gumbo?

Not bad
This is more of the same madness from Man Man. All the elements are there, it's just not as good as some of their others. That said, it still pisses on most of that avant-garde/gypsy-punk/whatever scene.

ManMan rocks, simply.
ManMan rocks, simply. In show they are actually way better. So small place they are taking on stage, but it is more than enough for them.

Most interesting and fun music I've heard (and seen) in a long long time
Mixing Tom Waits, Zappa, and even a little of Nick Cave, this band is definitely worth a listen. As other reviewers have said, their onstage dynamic carnival of sound and action shouldn't be missed either. This band has FUN, and makes sure their audience does too. I sincerely hope to see them in concert again and a new album soon.

YES.
I had heard of a few Man Man songs before and some of my friends raved about them, but seeing them live changes everything. I had heard some songs off their latest CD (Top Drawer, Poor Jackie) and I assure you that its not just the newer stuff that's worth hearing. All of their CD's are the type that you WANT to listen to in order and in its entirety. I'd go so far as to say this CD gets better as it goes along (well, my favorite song is the last one).

Fun and different
I heard this CD at a bar in Minneapolis one night at random. The bartender was playing it. I had never heard of the band, which is odd now considering my other musical tastes. I couldn't pay attention to the conversation at the bar for being so interested in listening to the music. Want a bad comparison? Modernize early Residents albums.....

I bought this as a Christmas gift for my brother ...
I bought this as a Christmas gift for my brother, brand new, and was embarrassed to see the cover was cracked in two places. It was still shrink wrapped so hopefully the CD itself was ok, but still a bit disappointing.
