I was very disappointed with this book.
I was very disappointed with this book. I expected at least some colour reproductions of Kurt Jackson's paintings, but the book was largely text. The illustrations were black and white, and were mostly photos (of poor quality) of Cornwall. I returned the book for a refund, which the seller was happy to do.

Interesting for nerds.... and serious students!
A well- written and thoughtful book. Quite academic and appropriate really for careful reading.I think a little more visual material would have enlivened - and perhaps enlightened- the general text.

Kurt Jackson is an extraordinary artist, however I don't feel this book does justice to his work. It is clearly written by a man who loves his work, just not very well.

Do not buy this book about 'Kurt Jackson' because if is a waste of your money.
This is the first book which I have ever had to return. It is a very badly written book. There are no reproductions of paintings by Kurt Jackson, just very badly taken black and white photos of places that might have inspired some of Kurt's paintings. At one point he includes a picture of a car park saying "aspects of West Cornwall you don't often see in pictures". The author called to visit Kurt one day after a brief phone call and is using this 'contact' as an excuse to write a book about Kurt. It is a vanity press publication and you should not waste your money on this book. I could not post this review without giving it a star rating but in my opinion it does Not merit one star. Avoid this book.

Kurt Jackson, Where are you?
I love Kurt Jackson and hoped that this book might offer some insight into his creative processes and thoughts. It doesn't.Sadly this book reads like first-year university essay where pre-read material is rearranged and summarized. The footnotes seem to refer to page numbers (presumed of this book) but the quoted item never seems to appear there. The book refers to the style of particular pictures (none of which are reproduced) and the author's constant and favourite phrases seems to be "in my opinion". In the first chapter the authors says that he has met Jackson and yet all the Jackson quotes come from other articles which have appeared elsewhere. One chapter just reads like a travelogue of West Penwith (Jackson's favourite painting spots), another chapter tries to show his influences and how he fits in with continuing tradition of landscape painters. I am afraid it is a very dull book and probably (by the lack of illustrations of Jackson's work)unauthorised. There are a very limited number of publications on Kurt Jackson, which is why I ended up buying it, and so it may tempt other people interested in Jackson's wonderful work to fall into the same trap as I did.For a more exciting insight try "Kurt Jackson: A New Genre of Landscape Painting" published by Lund Humphries. It is twice the price but the articles are well written (by Mike Tooby and Howard Jacobson among others) and the book is beautifuly illustrated.

What a disappointment
This book is so disappointing. The lack of any colour plates to illustrate Jackson's work which was the main reason for buying is not compensated by the poorly reproduced black and white photographs at the back of the book. To make matters worse, the writing style of the author is extremely poor and the dialogue is confused and constantly contradicts itself. I will be returning my copy.

No Kurt Jackson paintings
Very disappointed that there are NO paintings illustrated. In a book about a painter, it's the least you'd expect. I'd go so far as to say that this is a book for fans of the author, not Kurt Jackson.I'm returning mine.
