How To Bake British Cakes, Crumpets, Buns & Biscuits (Authentic English Recipes)

Smaller than I thought. But has basic recipes. Nice addition to my collection of recipes from around the world.

I (and my best friend) live next door to one another in a nice Senior Citizen's mobile home park. Rita was born and raised in England, and she loves to bake and cook (and loves to share the goodies with me) I bought this book for her, and she was thrilled to death with it. The recipes are easy to follow, and have all been delicious. We both highly recommend this book.

Right now I am going to give this a 4 star I have made the English Short Bread and it looks great but taste more or less like flour. Husband was not impressed. There are two recipes in this that are only for bread machines. Since I do not own one I can’t make this. I would have thought that since the rest that are for bread machines also have normal recipes these would have as well. I am very interested in trying the other recipes and seeing how they turn out. I won’t be using the English muffin one since I already have a recipe for that that everyone loves.English Short Bread- taste a lot like flour and not much else. If I have done something wrong please let me know. Husband is not impressed. My rating may change as I make more of these recipes.Will update as I make more of these recipes.

I was a bit worried trying to figure out what was in the cookbook. There are 16 recipes with several variations for bread machines: bake well tarts, English shortbread, scones, Chelsea buns, Victoria sponge cake, crumpets, custard tarts, Dundee cakes, bath buns, English muffins, digestive biscuits, hot cross buns, Madeleine's, maid of honor tarts, sausage rolls, and pastry tart shells. I have tried them yet but it's definitely a good value.

Love the easy British recipes.

Had high hopes for some solid British recipes but was disappointing to find some pretty sorry content.

So far I’ve only made the bread machine crumpets but I have to say they were easy and came out delicious. I won’t be buying the rubbery ones ever again.

It has recipes. Better Recipes are probably available from other sources, but I wanted a recipe book in my hand. I was impatient and bought this without much thought. I made my own notes inside of it. But I have a book, now.😉

I expected more recipes. I already have all of them, except the crumpets. I would have preferred coloured photos and more of the different cooking stages. Doubt I’ll ever use it!

I made Custard tarts today and they are delicious. I have found that the recipes are very easy to follow and most of the ingredients I always have on hand in my pantry. So many of these baked goods are what you might find in a bakery, yet easy to make at home. I love this cookbook so much I'm on the search for the rest of Geoff Wells cookbooks!
