A gorgeous modern classic
Beautiful. Illustrations stunning, and a wonderful heart breaking and heart warming story. A latter day Maurice Sendak; quirky yet meaningful. Oh yes and my 4 year old loves it too!

Excellent Book for Children - Read all the book to show Eric is a hero!
Don't worry about the Dunce and Dummy comments, this is a great story for kids.Maybe the reviewer below should have kept reading and found out that the moral of the story was that Eric wasn't what they said he was, he was in fact a hero and the monster wasn't really that scary.....sorry if I've spoilt the plot!Brilliant picture book for young children. My boys love it.

Not for children
I started reading this book to my 4 year old son when I had to stop...I was astonished by the language. Adults in the book were calling the young boy:- STUPID, TWIT, DUNCE, DOPE...even the teacher... Children of this age very quickly pick up words, so whatever you read or say to them they will start to repeat, and this is not the kind of language I want my son repeating at school or to anyone. ( I would have given it 0 but the lowest you can give is 1 )
