Blue And White Japan
I really loved this book. It has wonderful photography and is an interesting read. I particularly like the fact that the author grew up in a western country, and now lives in Japan, because she shares her outlook from a Western eye, which is helpful to a Western reader who loves antiques and collectables, along with blue and white. I love the way the photos blend the simplicity of Japanese style along with a little Western taste in collecting things. It has a nice balance of not over doing the display of cherished things, while still enjoying them in the home. To me it had a very "Zen" feel of harmony and beauty, and had a feeling of "coming home" to things I love when I looked at this book. I felt inspired to rearrange my collections and cut clutter while still displaying favourite items in a complimentary way.

One of my favorite books
I’m a quilter and a writer, and read avidly. I first got hardcopy of this book years ago, and I think of it as my favorite picture book—I reread it just to enjoy the pictures and to get design inspiration. It’s one of the few design books I really enjoy—the vignettes are so inviting, and this is my inspiration for saving my pennies and decorating my house around the concept of Japanese indigo and warm woodtones.

Visually inspiring
I'm giving this 5 stars because as a visual artist I use this book more for the pictures than anything else. It's a bit dated, but the overall indigo and white theme is timeless. I'd considered giving it 4 stars because it isn't the in-depth sort of research book I often use, but I've suggested it to so many American quilters and designers over the years that dinging it a star seemed silly. If you want depth, there are other books out there. If you want inspiration, get this one. It isn't shallow, just very pretty.

This is a fun book with great photography of many indigo pieces and pottery from Japan. I had been looking for a copy of this out-of-print book and am pleased to have it in my library.

Great Book to own
I live in Japan and purchased this book to see how people inter mix all the different blue and white dishes, materials and clothing. Great book to have for decorating your home. Can not wait to get to a few more Shrine Sales to pick up some more Blue and Whites.

This book is divine!
I found Amy Katoh's book when I decided to redesign my home office. I live in the countryside in Japan so I knew I had a lot available to work with but wasn't sure exactly how to use it. This book put it all together for me. After reading it and examining the photos and advice, I now know how to shop for indigo fabrics, which flea markets to go to and what special accents to look for. I now have a beautiful Blue and White office. Thanks Amy!
