That's more like it!
I'm a big fan of Marcus Miller right from his 'Suddenly' days to his more mainstream efforts of now. Like Stanley Clarke, the days of Funk, & Soul jazz seem to be behind him. Which if your a purist, is great. Me, I hanker for the 'Suddenly' days, but that's more about me & nostalgia, than Miller's superb bass lines. This album is dedicated to raising awareness of the Slave story. Marcus has become a spokesperson for UNESCO's 'Slave Route Project', & through this laudable set has created an African/South American flavoured collection. Tinged with Blues, R&B, & of course Jazz.It grows on you with each listen. While no 'Panther' to my ears, its still great, & there is a lot to enjoy, 'B'S River', 'Papa was a rolling stone', 'Xtraordinary, & the excellent 'I cant breathe', complete with rap insert from Chuck D & Mocean Worker. That's more like it!

A SPECIAL ALBUM FROM MM
A very special album from Marcus that really deserves more attention. I saw most of the music performed a coupe of times at gigs and maybe a livealbum would have been worth a try but to get the magic that was present across. The in effect jousting that took place between Marcus and the Kora player at the gigs needs to be recorded. A great album to add to the MM catalogue.

A wonderful journey around world...and back to Detroit!
Full of rhythms from around the world and Marcus's superb playing. The musicians from the varying cultures bring a freshness to the music. Saw the live performance in London which inspired the purchase and not disappointed although Marcus playing this music live, with a number of the African based musicians, was superb.

Marcus does it again...
Another Miller special. Not as intense as "M2", or "Silver Rain" or the excellent "Tales", but cover of "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" was phyne!!!!

Marcus I have issues with the loudness of your bass but this album is ace. Check out Highlife. The album seems to be a follow on from David Sanborn's Time and the River. A must have album.
